Southwest Airlines opened its flight schedule Wednesday for once-daily service out of San Diego. The flights travel to Kahului, Maui, starting Apr. 14, 2020. Flights to Honolulu begin Apr. 20, 2020, Southwest reports. Fares as low as 9 each way will be available on both routes for travel between Apr. 14 and June 4, 2020, according to the airline. The tickets must be purchased Oct. 30. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Inside the 3D Innovations Lab at Rady Children's Hospital, the hearts, bones, skulls, and spines of patients are brought to life in a new way.Justin Ryan, Ph.D. is director of the lab. Using 3D printers, they can replicate a patient's anatomy down to every precise detail, giving doctors critical information before surgery.“The concept is by giving our doctors more information they can perform a better procedure; they can even perform it with less time. So that means less time under bypass, less time under anesthesia, which is great for the patients themselves," said Ryan.For example, if a patient is a candidate for a stent or valve, doctors could use the 3D model to try different sizes before entering the operating room. “We give them more information to plan a better procedure," said Ryan. While some of the models take several hours, many can be created within the day. “There isn’t an average day, I might have a cardiac case in the morning, an ortho case in the evening, I'll have a doctor have an idea for a medical device that they wanted to design or develop, and that all happens here," said Ryan. Ryan says the 3D models are also useful when explaining the procedure to families. The technology is currently being funded by grants and donations, at no extra cost to families. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Light scattered showers fell throughout the day from Mission Valley to Carmel Valley.While Sunday's rainfall marked the first fall rain for the region, Alex Tardy with the National Weather Service said that rain will disappear by Monday. “We're looking at conditions that are bone dry, record dry. It’s never been this dry before and just a little bit of rain like this, while it's nice and we won’t have any fires [Sunday], once the dry air starts blowing through on Monday and continues into Tuesday, it's not going to make much of a difference,” Tardy said.RELATED: In-depth: Why La Ni?a could make wildfire season worseTardy said that San Diego may go long stretches without rainfall this season as we move into a dry La Ni?a winter. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Inclement weather beginning Monday and lasting through Thursday will bring cooler temperatures and rain to San Diego County amid a busy travel season. The first of a series of storms is set to arrive Monday, bringing rain and snow to the county. A second storm is due to bring another round of moisture Christmas night through Thursday. Between the two storm systems, light showers will occur, according to the National Weather Service. The first round of storms are forecast to dump as much as an inch of rain along the coast and in the mountains.
