A long line of people stretched down the street and around a corner in Amsterdam, New York, Friday evening as mourners waited to to enter St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church.They wanted to honor the lives of eight people -- four of them sisters -- who died in last weekend's devastating limousine crash."Nobody cared how cold it was," said Christopher Carpenter, a resident who attended the gathering and knew one of the victims, Abigail Jackson. "The wind was blowing. Kelly Loeffler (R-Georgia), escalated on Tuesday when Dream players wore shirts supporting Loeffler's opponent in an upcoming special election.Since opening the 2020 season in Bradenton, Florida, the WNBA has taken several steps to honor the Black Lives Matter movement in response to hundreds of nationwide protests against police brutality and systemic racism. Games have taken place on courts emblazoned with the words "Black Lives Matter," and players have worn the names of those who have died at the hands of police on the backs of their jerseys.Loeffler has not been involved with day-to-day team operations since she was appointed to replace Sen. A body found in Costa Rica has been identified as a Florida woman who went missing while she was on vacation, according to her family. The father and brother of Carla Stefaniak identified the body as the 36-year-old Tuesday night.During an exclusive interview with WFTS, Stefaniak's father, Carlos, said his heart shattered when he saw her body.Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) said an autopsy performed on her body showed that she had stab wounds around the neck and extremities and blunt-force trauma to the head.Family friend, Greg Zwolinsky, who is with them in Costa Rica, said he wants everyone to remember Stefaniak based on the radiance of her personality that is portrayed in pictures of her smiling. 783

A group of Republicans in the House of Representatives have formally nominated President Donald Trump for the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize.In a letter addressed to Berit Reiss-Andersen, the chair of the Nobel Committee, the group nominated Trump on the basis of his work to end the war between North and South Korea."Since taking office, President Trump has worked tirelessly to apply maximum pressure on North Korea to end its illicit weapons programs and bring peace to the region. His Administration successfully united the international community, including China, to impost one of the most successful international sanctions regimes in history. A Cuyahoga County (Ohio) Sheriff's Department employee was on the job when he overdosed in the parking lot of a Brooklyn IHOP in March.Paul Grivas has a badge with the sheriff's department where he works as a process server — someone who serves warrants and subpoenas. He was in his marked sheriff's department vehicle when someone noticed him slumped over at the wheel and dialed 911."It was definitely a different situation dealing with somebody that's in the same line of work we are," Officer Joe Bugaj with the Brooklyn Police Department said.Police officers found several subpoenas he was in the process of serving in the back seat. They also found the badge he was carrying.When Brooklyn first responders arrived at the scene, they immediately recognized he was overdosing and unresponsive.Grivas was given several doses of Naloxone, the antidote for heroin. Police say when he woke up he was extremely combative. "He was flailing his arms, kicking his legs, and one of the medics ended up getting kicked in the head," Bugaj said.He kneed a fireman so hard, the fireman suffered a mild concussion. Officials say he is doing okay.Bugaj said it's not uncommon for people to wake up from an overdose and be aggravated. He said it's something first responders have to keep in mind. "You never know what could happen, whether or not they're going to be upset, because we are basically taking that high away from them," Bugaj said.When asked if there is anything first responders can do to protect themselves, Bugaj said it's just part of the job."It's our job. It's what we signed up to do. We are here to preserve life," Bugaj said.Scripps station WEWS in Cleveland requested more information on Grivas' status with the sheriff's department, but did not hear back Wednesday. Grivas has been charged with felonious assault and obstructing official business.  1998
