SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — At least three large sharks were spotted off the coast of Torrey Pines State Beach swimming close to surfers in the water on Thursday.California State Parks Lifeguards say they received reports of five sharks swimming about 50 feet from shore and 100 to 200 yards from Lifeguards Tower 1 at about 12 p.m. The sharks were seen specifically gliding around the Flat Rock area, located north of Black's Beach and south of Torrey Pines State Beach, according to a State Parks spokesperson.Sky10 was overhead as the sharks swam nearby surfers who were just offshore of Torrey Pines:Officials say the largest of the sharks, which may have been great white sharks, was about 10 feet in length."The sharks did not interact with any beachgoers during this time. The shark actions are considered non-aggressive and consistent with normal white shark behavior," a State Parks spokesperson said.A San Diego Fire-Rescue Lifeguard made announcements to people in the water about the sighting. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Arson investigators Saturday were looking into multiple fires set within a three-mile radius of each other in Ocean Beach and Point Loma.The first fire was set at about 1 a.m. on Muir Ave. in Ocean Beach. Three more fires were set on Piedmont Dr. and Catalina Pl. in the Point Loma area, San Diego Fire-Resuce Department said.No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. Each fire was set in rubbish behind homes, according to SDFD. Due to the proximity and similarities between the small fires, fire officials said the fires were "suspicious" and arson investigators were looking at whether they were connected. No arrests have been made."The San Diego Metro Arson Strike Team (MAST) is investigating several suspicious rubbish fires which occurred last night in the Point Loma and Ocean Beach communities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Court services are being drastically reduced due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which affects both civil and criminal proceedings. The closure will last until April 3rd.“My fear is that we’re going to have situations where individuals are going to stay in custody longer than what the law permits,” said David P. Shapiro, a criminal defense attorney. “What happens to the individuals who are in custody who have a future court date?”By law, you should have your first court appearance within 48 hours after your arrest. That excludes weekends and holidays, according to a spokesperson with the District Attorney’s Office.“We are in constant meetings with the court and the Public Defender and the Sheriff, our law enforcement partners,” said District Attorney Summer Stephan.Stephan said they have dealt with closures, such as during our past major wildfires. They are working on a system to review criminal cases to see who is suitable for community release.“This is an evolving process, but what we’re trying to do is to maintain due process in the time of crisis,” Stephan said.A Sheriff’s Department spokesperson told 10News they are “working with the District Attorney’s Office and evaluating the impact” the court closures might have.“I was personally hoping they would have an emergency department available through all this just for arraignments, just for in-custody arraignments. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Caltrans presented five renderings of possible suicide barriers for the San Diego-Coronado Bridge.More than 400 people have killed themselves by jumping from the bridge since it was opened in 1969, making it the second deadliest suicide bridge in the nation behind San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge.The possible suicide barriers include a large net underneath the bridge similar to the one to be put on the Golden Gate Bridge, three types of fencing, or 18-inch spikes on top of the existing barriers.Caltrans said one design will be chosen in Spring 2018.They said it will take several years to build the barrier because they need to have environmental impact studies done and get funding for it.  752

Included in the reforms would be a mandate that companies disclose the full cost of each ticket, including additional fees, up front.In the current environment, most ticket sites show only the cost of the ticket up front, but add the fees after the customer has begun the process of purchasing the tickets.San Diego Congressman Scott Peters is on the committee considering the bill and questioned leaders from the major ticketing companies during a congressional hearing Wednesday. The hearing included representatives from Ticketmaster, Stubhub, and AXS.Other contentious issues being considered by lawmakers include battling ticket fraud, transfer of tickets once purchased, and the accusations that companies withhold putting many of the tickets on sale at one time in order to create a false sense of demand and artificially cause the ticket prices to increase.Peters says he thinks Congress will be able to pass a strong bill to create more transparency.
