SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Home sales in San Diego are starting to see a dramatic decrease, according to a new report by CoreLogic.Year-to-year, home sales fell nearly 18 percent from September of 2017 to September of 2018. From August to September of this year, home sales fell nearly 22 percent. Since 1988, the average change in sales between August and September is only 9.8 percent.“The nearly 18 percent year-over-year drop in Southern California home sales this September was the largest for any month in almost eight years,” said Andrew LePage, a CoreLogic analyst.Also in September, sales of newly-built homes in Southern California were 46.6 percent below the September average since 1988.The drop in home sales is due to higher prices and rising mortgage rates, according to CoreLogic. Those factors are pricing out some would-be buyers and prompting others to wait and see what happens with the housing market.The median home price in San Diego County in September of 2018 was 5,000, up nearly eight percent from the same time last year, however, the median price fell by 1.4 percent from August to September of 2018.“Price growth is moderating amid slower sales and more listings in many markets,” LePage said. “This is welcome news for potential homebuyers, but many still face a daunting hurdle – the monthly mortgage payment, which has been pushed up sharply by rising mortgage rates.” 1405

The City of San Diego is inviting residents to donate big items at a recycling event Saturday. Disposal services will be available at SDCCU Stadium in Mission Valley from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. City of San Diego residents can drop off appliances, furniture, electronics, televisions, and other bulky belongings. Smaller recyclable items including batteries and light bulbs will also be accepted. Goodwill Industries of San Diego County and Urban Corps of San Diego will accept items and mattresses. The donation and recycling event is part of the Clean SD initiative to reduce illegal dumping. 707

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Gusty Santa Ana winds and dry conditions prompted the National Weather Service to declare a Red Flag Warning for parts of San Diego County.A Fire Weather Watch was initially set to take effect Thursday, but NWS officials -- citing Santa Ana winds and low humidity -- updated the declaration into a Red Flag Warning.The warning is scheduled to take effect Thursday at 10 a.m. and will expire at 10 p.m. Friday. As a result, Cal Fire is increasing staffing this week. LATEST WEATHER FORECASTNWS officials said, “Santa Ana winds will develop Thursday with peak winds arriving Thursday night into Friday morning before gradually decreasing Friday afternoon and evening. A very dry air mass will spread into southern California on Thursday with lowest daytime humidity on Friday around 5 percent.”According to NWS officials, the Red Flag Warning will impact the San Diego region’s mountain and inland valleys.“Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly with extreme fire behavior possible. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds of protesters gathered in Balboa Park Monday evening, the third day of protests in the San Diego region. A large group began coalescing near the San Diego Police Department headquarters near Broadway and 13th St in the afternoon. As night fell, the group marched up Park Boulevard past San Diego City College and into Balboa Park. Law enforcement officers followed closely. Freeway on-ramps and off-ramp were blocked by CHP officers in tactical gear along the route, preventing protesters from accessing the freeways. After marching through the park, the group stopped near El Prado and Sixth Ave. Many in the group laid down on their stomachs with their arms behind their backs, chanting “I can’t breathe,” in honor of George Floyd, the unarmed black man killed in police custody in Minnesota on May 25, 2020. Afterwards, they held a moment of silence for those killed at the hands of police. Many demonstrators dispersed after, though a group began forming again outside SDPD headquarters. At 10:25, SDPD tweeted that “bottles, fireworks and other objects” were being thrown at officers near their headquarters. Several minutes later, police declared the protest an unlawful assembly and began clearing the area, tweeting, “those who remain or return against this lawful order may be cited/arrested and risk exposure to chemical agents & less-lethal force applications.” As of 11 p.m. SDPD had announced they made one arrest for vandalism. 1481

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — From California to Maine, breweries across the country are stepping up to help California fire victims.The effort started with the Sierra Nevada brewery. While their facility was spared by the Camp Fire, communities around it were devastated.Sierra Nevada founder Ken Grossman reached out to fellow brewers to join him in the disaster relief effort, making their ‘Resilience Butte County Proud IPA’ recipe available to those who want to help. The brewery is asking that 100 percent of profits go to fire relief efforts. So far over 1,200 breweries have pledged to make and sell the beer.“I’ve never seen anything on this scale,” said Jim Millea, brewmaster at OB Brewery. “That’s a lot of beer being made for a good cause, it’s pretty sweet!”Millea says he didn’t hesitate to join the effort.“Who wouldn’t want to be a part of a good cause?” said Millea. He’s one of many in the San Diego region who will be brewing Resilience IPA. Millea hopes to have his on tap at the OB Brewery in a few weeks.
