SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego Police officer escaped injury when a driver reportedly tried to run him over Sunday morning.The incident happened around 1 a.m. near the intersection of F and Sixth Streets in the Gaslamp district.The officer was able to jump off his bicycle, which was dragged beneath the suspect’s vehicle. Police say the driver ditched his car and fled the scene.Police said Sunday that they are still searching for the suspect.No description of the suspect or suspect vehicle were given. 514

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A surf dog and quadriplegic surfer that made history 10 years ago reunited in La Jolla Sunday.Ricochet and Patrick Iverson met 10 years ago when Iverson decided to go surfing. Ricochet and Iverson were side-by-side when Ricochet decided to jump on the surf board.Since that day, Ricochet has surfed with and helped hundreds of kids, people with disabilities, wounded warriors and veterans with PTSD.Now, Ricochet is part of an organization that helps kids and adults with autism, special needs and disabilities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A suspect was arrested Sunday morning after reportedly stealing someone’s car and stabbing the owner who tried to prevent the theft.According to police, the incident happened around 9:10 a.m. on the 2800 block of Jarvis Street in Point Loma.When the owner of the car tried to stop the man, the suspect stabbed the victim. Police say the suspect then drove to the Fashion Valley Comprehensive Treatment Center to get help.RELATED: Car slams into house in San Diego's Skyline neighborhoodA short time later, the suspect was picked up by two other people in a red Ford SUV before police stopped the three at Ocean Beach and took them all into custody.The suspect was eventually arrested and the other two people in the SUV released. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An Oceanside woman says she was left feeling violated after her car was stolen from the Porto Vista Hotel's valet in Little Italy. "I had to leave some of my things in my car, like my work computer, some of my personal items that were expensive and personal, but I trusted they would be ok because it was a valet service at the hotel," said Ashley Holthaus, whose car was stolen. Her friend had a room at the hotel, and their group of friends went to a concert at San Diego State that evening. "The next morning, around 6:30 a.m. I got up and walked over to the valet and gave him my ticket and at that point, he looked for my keys and couldn't find my keys or record of my car being at the hotel."Holthaus says the next few hours were extremely stressful as staff tried to figure out what happened. She says she was asked to wait to call police until they had a better idea of what happened.Holthaus was eventually shown surveillance footage. She describes seeing a tall man in a hoodie walk up to the unattended valet kiosk, take her keys, walk straight to her car, and drive out of the parking garage. "Why am I paying for a service and then have something like this happen and then there's no accountability from the hotel?" said Holthaus.Her company's IT department was able to track the computer which was in the car; she says it was located out of the country.Holthaus says to make matters worse, the hotel charged her for the valet and did not offer to compensate her friend for the room.An attorney for the hotel tells 10News there hasn't been an incident like this in Porto Vista's 30 years of operation. The attorney says they've turned over surveillance to police and are cooperating with the investigation. He added that management is taking measure to ensure this doesn't happen again. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A statue of a dog that sits in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter is often overlooked, but historians say it says a lot about San Diego's past and its present."A lot of people walk by every day and don't even know the story of who Bum is," said Professor David Miller with the San Diego History Center.Bum the Dog was a stray in the 1890s. According to the History Center, he arrived on a boat without an owner or any identification and made himself at home in his new town."He was really owned by nobody but loved by everybody, and he became a symbol of the new San Diego community," said Miller.Throughout his life in San Diego, Bum would wander through all parts of downtown, often bridging the gap between the upper-class areas north of Market Street and the "seedier" parts of the Gaslamp Quarter."This was the area that you had the bars, the saloons, the brothels," said Miller. "Bum didn't live by the social categories that we had created. So he was just as comfortable going to the firehouse as he was going to the brothel or the Chinese butcher shop."Bum also had adventures. Miller tells a story of how he wound up on a train to LA, spent a few days there, and then came back.He also lost a paw in a fight with another dog. Local veterinarians took care of him whenever he got injured."A surgeon had to amputate part of Bum's leg. So he walked around with a limp for the rest of his life, but he was this hero who had to stand up for himself," said Miller.The statue of Bum, also missing a paw, sits in the garden at the Gaslamp Historical Foundation. Most people who walk by it every day never see it.Other parts of San Diego have paid homage to Bum. The city's dog licenses in the early 1900s had his picture on them. And the History Center's kids club is named after Bum.Miller said Bum's story teaches us all about the importance of history."History is fun stories, it's people's lives, it's dogs getting into fights and kicked by horses and getting on trains to LA," said Miller. "But those stories tell us something more important about ourselves and who we are as San Diego."The statue is located on 4th and Island on the Northeast corner.
