(KMGH) -- Police in Colorado say a couple accused of using stolen credit cards to rack up thousands of dollars in fraudulent charges had no problem bringing two young kids along."People using their children to shoplift, it's not something we see a lot of, but it's always very disappointing," said Mark Techmeyer, a spokesperson with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.Deputies said the unidentified couple stole a purse from a woman's car that was unlocked in the parking lot at Fairmont Elementary School in Lakewood. It happened on Sept. 15 around 3:30 p.m. local time.Within minutes of stealing the purse, investigators said the suspects began using the victim's credit cards."It happens very fast because they know the cards get canceled really quick," Techmeyer said.Deputies said the couple used the stolen cards to go on a three-day spending spree, fraudulently buying liquor, clothes, electronics, gas and food.Surveillance photos from a Kohl's store in Arvada showed the couple's two young kids with them as they checked out. In one of the photos, one of the kids is holding a shopping bag."It's a deplorable act," Techmeyer said.The duo with kids in tow then hit Mile High Wine Cellars, a liquor store next door.Owner Mark Crowder said their receipt for charges included Angry Orchard Cider, Ciroc Vodka, and expensive Cognac."She reported it stolen and then the charges continued," Techmeyer explained.Investigators said an error with the bank allowed the couple to keep using the stolen cards over three days, racking up nearly ,000 in fraudulent charges.Police are now hoping someone recognizes the couple in the surveillance photos."If there are any other charges that may surround having the children with them while they committed these acts is yet to be determined," Techmeyer said. 1872

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It's the happiest a Kansas City widower said he has been in three years."That's when our whole journey started," said Jim Purcell, who lost his 29-year-old wife Christy last year.Christy was diagnosed with brain cancer two months after their son, Jameson, was born.Scripps station KSHB in Kansas City reported earlier in April that Purcell's wedding rings had been stolen."It’s been a brutal journey. Every day was hard. When that ring was stolen, it was just another stab to the heart," said Purcell.Purcell shared the story on social media, explaining it was a devastating loss for him and his son."This was the one legacy item I wanted to pass on to him," said Purcell.Purcell's wallet was also stolen. The thieves used his credit card at the Walmart at 133rd and State Line; its surveillance video captured the alleged thieves’ faces.KCPD shared those images and together enough tips were gathered that detectives found the rings at a jewelry store in Raymore."They were honestly shocked," said Purcell.KCPD property crimes said it’s best to carefully photograph and document your items as extra insurance. Things like that can help them when trying to locate items.  "The police never gave up," explained Purcell, who said he was incredibly grateful people stepped forward with information. "A few of them actually put their own personal risk on the line."The group Stolen KC promotes people speaking up about theft daily."We’ve had people identified within five or 10 minutes," explained Todd Howerton, who is on the Facebook group's administration team.Members post photos of missing items with the idea that someone knows something. The group would like to grow to a strength of 200,000.  "The massive amount of people can facilitate finding things," said Howerton, who said they can take tips anonymously.That way, the things that are irreplaceable can be found."To have that, it gave me a lot of faith, a lot of hope, and a lot of thankfulness to people in the community who stepped up," said Purcell.Detectives told KSHB they are looking for three suspects in connection with the theft. (KGTV) - Wineries in the East County call themselves "hidden gems," offering San Diegans a chance to get away without having to travel as far as Temecula and other more well known wine producing areas.Granite Lion Cellars in Jamul grows 17 varietals. As they shift operations outside their tasting room, they are taking advantage of being in a wilderness area with a waterfall, trails to explore and picnic tables in the shade.They are family and dog friendly, and have contracted with a number of food trucks to offer food on site, as well as outdoor tastings in a more intimate setting.Miriam Valdez, Granite Lion Cellars' tasting room manager, said, "We are used to telling people about our wines, now we actually have to limit contact." While also struggling to sell more wine, Valdez added, "We are right now maybe 60-70 days out from harvest, and our warehouse is full, so the wine has to go somewhere."Sommelier David Whited said they're offering specials on cases of wine and wine club memberships, in an effort to move inventory.They're also breaking ground on a brand new barrel cave and tasting room in the hope that one day they'll be able to move back indoors.Granite Lion has retained and retrained their staff in order to stay in compliance with all of the sanitation and safety rules.They've also donated wine to the community -- to be turned into hand sanitizer.
