Maine’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention said that it has traced 24 COVID-19 cases from an August 7 wedding reception in Millinocket, Maine.According to data released by the Maine CDC, 18 of the 24 cases were among those who attended the wedding reception. An additional six cases were tied to close contacts of those who attended the gathering.The reception reportedly had 65 attendees.Maine’s CDC is conducting further contact tracing of those who attended or worked the reception.Maine currently limits indoor gatherings to 50 people and outdoor gatherings to 100 attendees. 594

Madison Wilson, an elementary school student in California, is raising money to donate multicultural crayons and books to local schools.Wilson learned that Crayola will be releasing a 24-pack of multicultural crayons called 'Colors of the World' in July and asked her mom if she could raise the funds to donate these crayons to her school.Wilson said she wanted children of all colors of skin to be able to accurately draw themselves in school.She also wants to use the money she raises to purchase multicultural books from local book stores and donate them as well.Wilson's deadline to raise the money is June 30. She had raised ,790 of her ,000 goal as of Tuesday afternoon. Marc Short, the chief of staff for Vice President Mike Pence, has contracted COVID-19, according to The New York Times and Bloomberg.Pence's staff says the Vice President tested negative for the virus on Saturday.According to the Times, Pence's office released a statement Saturday night saying that even though Pence had close contact with Short in recent days, he "will maintain his schedule in accordance with the CDC guidelines for essential personnel.”The announcement came shortly after Bloomberg reported Saturday night that another one of Pence's top aides, Marty Obst, had also tested positive for the virus."Today, Marc Short, Chief of Staff to the Vice President, tested positive for COVID-19, began quarantine and assisting in the contact tracing process," a statement from Pence press secretary Devin O'Malley read, according to Axios. "Vice President Pence and Mrs. Pence both tested negative for COVID-19 today, and remain in good health. While Vice President Pence is considered a close contact with Mr. Short, in consultation with the White House Medical Unit, the Vice President will maintain his schedule in accordance with the CDC guidelines for essential personnel."Short and Obst are just the latest high-ranking White House officials to contract COVID-19. Earlier this month, President Donald Trump, first lady Melania Trump and their son, Barron, all announced that they had contracted COVID-19. Other top aides like press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, adviser Stephen Miller and former adviser Kellyanne Conway also tested positive for the virus. Most were in attendance at a White House event for the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett, where many guests were pictured indoors without masks.The outbreak in Pence's office comes as COVID-19 cases spike across the country. Mack Beggs defended his Texas wrestling state title on Saturday by winning the girls Class 6A 110-pound class, to the chagrin of some of those in attendance in Cypress, Texas, the Dallas Morning News reported. Beggs, who was born female, is a transgender male who is only allowed to wrestle against girls. Texas' University Interscholastic League requires that athletes compete in the gender listed on their birth certificate. Beggs told the Dallas Morning News that he has not gone through any gender reassignment surgeries. But that did not stop those in the crowd from heckling Beggs. "They're saying 'steroids.' They're saying, 'Oh, they're beating up on girls,'" he told the Morning News. "It just comes down to technique and who has the most heart. I put too much blood, sweat and tears, I put too much B.S. into this journey that I wanted to come out on top."If Beggs had his choice, he would be competing against boys. "What can I tell people? I can tell the state legislature to change the policy, but I can't tell them to change it right now," Beggs told reporters. "All I can hope for is that they come to their [senses] and realize this is stupid and we should change the policies to conform to other people in my position."Among those who believe it was not a fair bout was Beggs' semifinal opponent Kayla Fitts, who went 52-0 as a senior for Cypress Ranch High School. "The strength definitely was the difference. I didn't anticipate how strong he was," Fitts told the Morning News."I understand if you want to transition your gender," she added. "I understand that totally. But there's a time and a place."Part of the issue has been that Beggs is taking a low dose of testosterone.
