Las Vegas even has its own museum devoted to the iconic neon of its heyday.It was a dying business, or so it seemed. Friedman says smaller scale, specialty signs are now more popular than ever.  Smaller businesses want to craft a unique sign that stands out and might even be Instagram-worthy.“For us, we’ve never made more neon, and we still can’t make it fast enough, Friedman says.“I think because there's a fresh appreciation of artisanal goods, and people with this instant gratification are appreciating slow process, handmade items, and neon is clearly one of those.”The process can take days to craft just one neon sign.Thomas Rinaldi, a historian who's catalogued some of New York’s most iconic neon signs, says the abundance of new neon is real."People have really kind of seized, maybe more than ever in the last few years, on the kind of unique aesthetic of these exposed tube neon signs,” Rinaldi says. “And it’s become enormously desirable for restaurants, retail environments."However, Rinaldi acknowledges that, in terms of glass blowers still working in neon today, there are fewer of them. DETROIT (AP) — Ford is recalling more than 700,000 vehicles in North America because the backup cameras can show distorted images or suddenly go dark.The recall covers most 2020 versions of Ford’s F-Series trucks, as well as the 2020 Explorer, Mustang, Transit, Expedition, Escape, Ranger and Edge. Despite instituting orders limiting large gatherings throughout the state, Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves has invited local lawmakers and other officials to the state governor's mansion for Christmas parties in the coming days, according to Mississippi Today and the Washington Post.According to Mississippi Today, Reeves, a Republican, has issued executive orders that limit indoor gatherings to no more than 10 people, limit outdoor gatherings to 50 people and require the use of masks or facial coverings indoors for 54 of the state's 82 counties. Those orders include Hinds County, home of the state capital of Jackson and the governor's mansion.But despite those orders, Reeves has reportedly sent invitations to state and district elected officials throughout the state to attend three separate Christmas parties at the governor's mansion, including parties for both the state Senate and House of Representatives.While it's not known how many people are invited to each party, it would appear that more than 10 people would be attending. The State House has 122 members, and the Senate has 52 members.Mississippi Today also reports that Reeves attended a fundraiser hosted by a hospital executive last week that included more than 20 guests.Bailey Martin, a spokesperson for the governor, told Mississippi Today that the events will follow Reeves' orders."The Governor and first lady have canceled or delayed many mansion events this year including the 1st Friday Christmas Candlelighters event and their daughter's 16th birthday party, and have only continued with those events that can be conducted safely," Martin said.Reeves' wife, Elee, said on Monday that she would not be opening the governor's mansion for public tours of the Christmas decorations, as she had in years past. 1794

DEERFIELD, Ill. – Walgreens says it’s partnering with a primary care company to open full-service doctor's offices at hundreds of its drugstores.The pharmacy chain announced Wednesday that an expanded partnership with VillageMD will allow them to open 500 to 700 “Village Medical at Walgreens” primary care clinics in more than 30 markets in the next five years. They intend to build hundreds more after that.Most of the clinics will be approximately 3,300 square feet each, with some as large as 9,000 square feet. Walgreens says they will optimize existing space in stores, which will also still provide a range of retail products to customers.Walgreens says the clinics will integrate the pharmacist as a critical member of VillageMD’s multi-disciplinary team to deliver quality health care to patients. The clinics will also be staffed by more than 3,600 primary care providers, who will be recruited by VillageMD.The clinics will accept a wide range of health insurance options and offer comprehensive primary care across a broad range of physician services, according to Walgreens.To help those who struggle to find health care providers, the company says more than 50% of clinics will be located in medically underserved areas designated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.“These clinics at our conveniently located stores are a significant step forward in creating the pharmacy of the future, meeting many essential health needs all under one roof as well as through other channels,” said Stefano Pessina, executive vice chairman and CEO, Walgreens Boots Alliance.“In the U.S., we spend trillion per year on health care, over 85% of that is tied to patients with chronic diseases. DALLAS, Ga. — A Georgia high school plans to start the week with all classes shifting online after nine students and staff tested positive for the coronavirus as the school year opened with in-person classes last week.News outlets report all students at North Paulding High School west of Atlanta will take online classes Monday and Tuesday.Paulding County Schools Superintendent Brian Ott sent a letter to parents Sunday saying those two days will be used to clean and disinfect the school.Ott disclosed Saturday that six students and three staff had tested positive for the virus.The school made headlines last week with photos posted to social media that showed hallways crowded with students who weren't wearing masks.Hannah Watters, a student who posted photos of the school’s crowded halls, was suspended for her actions, but the punishment was later lifted.Since posting the photos and making headlines, Watters says she has received threats. The sophomore told CNN that she and her loved ones have been sent screenshots of group chats with threatening language against her.Watters believes much of the school’s staff supports her actions, but some of her fellow students don’t."I feel like a lot of teachers have my back because they know how dangerous it is going to school,” she told CNN. “But I know that a lot of the kids I go to school with, I've already gotten backlash for it. I've gotten threats and things like that, but I know that I'm doing the right thing and I, and it's not going to stop me from continuing doing it, but it is concerning, especially since it's a lot of the people I go to school with, people I've known for years now, that are threatening me now." 1694
