(AP) — An FBI agent testified during a court hearing in Michigan that members of anti-government paramilitary groups discussed kidnapping Virginia’s governor during a June meeting in Ohio.Special Agent Richard Trask was part of the investigation that led to six men being arrested and charged last week with plotting to kidnap Michigan’s Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.Seven other men face state terrorism charges, in connection with the plot.Trask on Tuesday did not name Virginia’s Democratic governor, Ralph Northam, during his testimony in a federal courtroom in Grand Rapids. “They discussed possible targets, taking a sitting governor, specifically issues with the governor of Michigan and Virginia based on the lockdown orders,” Trask said.The agent said members of anti-government groups from multiple states attended the meeting and that attendees were unhappy with the governors’ actions to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.Ultimately, the plan was to kidnap Whitmer and "place her on trial" in a different location, the agent said.The hearing was held to review investigators’ evidence against five of the men involved, and whether they should be detained before trial. Here's a heartwarming story on a cold winter day.On Thursday afternoon, the Norton Fire Division in Northeast Ohio received a call regarding a dog that had fallen through a layer of ice and into a pond. Within minutes of receiving the call, crews arrived on the scene and jumped into action, Norton Fire Chief Mike Schultz said. "We had no idea what we were getting into until we showed up," Shultz said.Norton firefighters came prepared. As soon as their truck's wheels stopped rolling, firefighter Dwayne Marty jumped in the water after the dog. On the way over, Marty had donned a Mustang Suit, a specially designed jumpsuit for cold water ice rescue. The suit allows a firefighter to crawl over ice with special spikes embedded on it. "Anytime you get into a cold water situation, it can become deadly pretty fast," Schultz said.Marty was able to reach the dog just in time.Assistant Chief Mike Copen and firefighters Josh Lepley, Marcus Council, Brandon Earnsberger and Elliot Dunaye helped pull Marty and the dog back to land with a rope."It's a feel-good story. There is so much ugly stuff we do and see," Marty said. I love the possibilities,” she said.Swapp has always been crafty, whether in the workshop or at her home.“Photos and stories are super important to me and it brings me joy,” she said.However, for a few years, she couldn’t bring herself to create anything.“When Cory passed away, I just couldn’t scrapbook anymore,” she said.Cory is her second oldest son.“Cory called me and told me that he loved me and told me goodbye,” she said with tears in her eyes.Just months after his 16th birthday, Cory died by suicide.“I was completely shocked,” Swapp said. “I didn’t even know that was tumbling around in his mind.”She said Cory was seeing a therapist at the time of his death.“We had met for about an hour and it was a very tender and wonderful conversation,” she said.About 45 minutes later, Cory was gone.“The hard thing about suicide is you’re left with questions and it’s not one question, it’s 10,000 questions,” Swapp said. “It’s questions that you will never have answers for.”Through a podcast called “Light the Fight,” Swapp started talking about the things most families struggle to talk about – mental illness.Alongside her for each weekly episode is Cory’s therapist.“Both of us had been in that room and both of us had been trying to help him,” she said.Now, they help others.“I believe 100% that if we can shine light and if we can talk about stuff, then we’re in the fight and we can go to work,” she said.It was what motivated Swapp to go back to work and to create once again.In a way, Cory is there too.
