Li Wen, a federation official, blasted Japan's act as aggression and demanded release of the fishing boat and crew members, and an apology and compensation from the Japanese government.If the demands were not met, the federation would organize Diaoyu Islands defenders to land on the islands during the National Day holiday, which runs through Oct. 1 to Oct. 7, Li said.

UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- China on Thursday called on all states to make joint efforts to advance the international disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation process.Wang Qun, the Chinese ambassador for disarmament affairs, made the appeal in a speech delivered at the General Debate of the First Committee of the 65th Session of the UN General Assembly."We welcome the positive progress that has been made in the international arms control and disarmament field since the beginning of this year. To advance the international disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation process, joint and unremitting efforts are called for on the part of the entire international community," Wang said.He said that China welcomes the recent signing of a new bilateral nuclear disarmament treaty between the United States and the Russian Federation, and wishes to see the early ratification of the treaty."In the meantime, we hope that they, as countries with largest nuclear arsenals and special and primary responsibility for nuclear disarmament, will continue to make drastic and substantive reductions in their nuclear arsenals, so as to create the necessary conditions for the ultimate realization of complete and thorough nuclear disarmament," he said."When conditions are ripe, other nuclear-weapon states should also join the multilateral negotiations on nuclear disarmament," he added.On issues concerning nuclear non-proliferation, Wang urged the international community to work to safeguard the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and strengthen the safeguards function of the International Atomic Energy Agency."It is essential that all states strictly fulfill their non- proliferation obligations and strengthen their export control systems," he said. BEIJING, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo has highlighted a nationwide inspection of enforcement of the country's Law on Energy-saving to build a resource-efficient and environment-friendly society.Wu, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, made the remarks on Tuesday in an instruction to the committee's inspection.Energy-saving was a pressing and tough issue that involved all industries and occupations, and the inspection should push Chinese companies and corporations to reduce their energy consumption in production and operation, Wu said.The inspection would also promote implementation on the NPC Standing Committee's resolution to deal with climate change and other related Chinese laws and regulations, Wu said.

MANILA, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine government will provide the Chinese government a copy of the final report on the Aug. 23 hostage-taking incident before it divulges the findings to the public, the presidential palace said on Friday night.Secretary Ricky Carandang of the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office made the statement after President Aquino met with the Incident Investigation and Review Committee (IIRC) led by Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, following the submission of the final report on the incident that killed eight Hong Kong nationals."We have to communicate this to Beijing first before we make it public," Carandang said, adding that the presidential palace only "wants to be careful" in handling the sensitive matter.He said that the high-level Philippine delegation will still go to Beijing and Hong Kong to formally present the report to their leaders but this will have to be done after the President's working visit to the United States.The President and his delegation to the United States will depart on Monday night and will return on Sept. 28.

BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese farmers have begun to reap crops as autumn drew to a close, and the nation is expecting a good harvest this year, China's Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) said here Tuesday in a statement on its website.The forecast is based upon higher average yields and an estimate that China's planting area for autumn crops rose by 10 million Mu (about 667,000 hectares) from one year ago, said the ministry.According to figures from the MOA, a total of 386 million mu of crops had been harvested by Sept. 27, accounting for 33.3 percent of the total.In a break down of the harvest, 130 million mu of rice, or nearly 50 percent of the total rice planted, had been reaped, while 140 million mu of corn and 60.7 million mu of soybean were harvested, accounting for 28.5 percent and 46.5 percent of the total, respectively, said the MOA.The ministry also arranged for 29 million sets of farm equipment to help with the autumn harvest, it said.China's grain output reached 530.8 million tonnes in 2009, the sixth consecutive year of growth in grain yield.In the wake of a severe drought in China's southwestern regions earlier in the year, summer grain output this year stood at 123.1 million tons, down 0.3 percent from one year ago.
