As the federal government develops a response to keep millions of Americans afloat as businesses shutdown during the spread of coronavirus, Sen. Bernie Sanders released a plan that goes far beyond what most on Capitol Hill have proposed. Sanders said on Tuesday that Americans should be eligible for a ,000 a month payment from the government. His proposal came as voters in Florida, Illinois and Arizona went to the polls for the Democratic primary. Sanders struggled on Tuesday as rival Joe Biden won in Illinois and Florida. "My guess is we will be spending at least trillion in funding to prevent deaths, job losses and prevent an economic catastrophe," Sanders said. On Tuesday, the Trump administration suggested that some Americans should receive a one-time ,000 check from the government. But who would be eligible for such a payment is unknown. "Americans need cash now, and the president wants to get cash now — and I mean in the next two weeks," Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said early on Tuesday. But Sanders thinks assistance from the government needs to be more substantial. “We need to provide a direct ,000 cash payment to every household in America for the duration of the crisis to provide them with the assistance they need to pay their bills and take care of their families,” Sanders said."It is imperative that we stand together, understand that right now, throughout this country there are so many of our people wondering, ‘what is going to happen to me now?’ Sanders added. 1521

By several accounts, security was present and conspicuous at the Garlic Festival in Gilroy, California, over the weekend. The Gilroy Police Department had a "compound" on site, the police chief said. Patrons at the family-friendly food festival reported seeing officers on horses and motorcycles.Yet, a 19-year-old, identified by police as Santino William Legan, was able to cut through a back fence and begin shooting people at random. The mayhem Sunday left three people dead and at least 12 injured. It also put a spotlight on soft targets, places like festivals, schools and churches where people often think they can let their guard down and live freely and safely. Another shooting at a festival in New York Saturday that left one dead and 11 injured also emphasized the precariousness of such spaces.Law enforcement experts say that despite heavier security at festivals, schools and churches, there's really little that can be done to prevent attacks from happening."No one would associate the Garlic Festival with an attractive target," said James Gagliano, a CNN law enforcement analyst and retired FBI supervisory agent.Patrons offer different views of festival securityPolice were present all three days of the festival, Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee told reporters Monday."We actually create a police compound where we have a command center, a booking area, you know, all the things you would need to run a major operation like this," Smithee said. "The officers are deployed throughout the park and they're assigned to different regions of the park so they're spread out, we don't have officers all in one spot."Christian Swain, whose band 1667

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Thursday that 39 vaping-related deaths have now been reported. Those deaths were confirmed in 24 states and the District of Columbia: Alabama (1), California (3), Connecticut (1), Delaware (1), D.C. (1), Florida (1), Georgia (3), Illinois (3), Indiana (3), Kansas (2), Massachusetts (2), Michigan (1), Minnesota (3), Mississippi (1), Missouri (1), Montana (1), Nebraska (1), New Jersey (1), New York (1), Oregon (2), Pennsylvania (1), Tennessee (2), Texas (1), Utah (1), and Virginia (1).The median age of the deceased is 53 years and ranged from 17 to 75 years old, according to the CDC. As of Tuesday, the CDC says 2,051 confirmed and probable lung injury cases associated with the use of e-cigarette, or vaping, products were reported across all states except Alaska. The lung injury associated with the outbreak is being called EVALI. The CDC says all patients in the outbreak have reported a history with e-cigarette products. Officials say the latest findings suggest products containing THC, particularly those obtained off the street or from other informal sources, are linked to most of the cases and play a major role in the outbreak. “THC is present in most of the samples tested by FDA to date, and most patients report a history of using THC-containing products,” writes the CDC.At this time, the FDA and CDC have not identified the cause or causes of the lung injuries in these cases. “No one compound or ingredient has emerged as the cause of these illnesses to date; and it may be that there is more than one cause of this outbreak.”The CDC continues to recommend that consumers not use e-cigarette, or vaping, products that contain THC. People are also discouraged from buying any type of vaping products, particularly those containing THC, off the street. You should also not modify or add any substances to e-cigarettes that are not intended by the manufacturer. 1971
