TEMPE, Ariz. — An Arizona woman said a man posing as a Lyft driver tried luring her into his car. Around 9 p.m. Saturday, Bradie Trippi was waiting to be picked up in a parking lot in Tempe, Arizona. The Lyft app showed her driver was a minute away when a man in a gold Infiniti sedan pulled up next to her, she said. “He says, ‘I’m your Lyft’ and then took a phone, flashed it in my face,” Trippi told KNXV. She said the man showed her the passenger app — not the driver app — and the letter “f” of the “Lyft” emblem on his car was backward. Given the fact the man did not match the photo of her driver or description of her driver’s car, Trippi declined to get in the car. “He got aggressive,” she said. “Told me to get in the car, he’s gonna kill me, called me the ‘b word’, started yelling the ‘f word’ at me — I got kind of scared.”When her actual Lyft driver arrived, Trippi said the man sped off. Lyft and Uber spokespeople told KNXV that passengers should always check to make sure the photo of their driver, description of the vehicle and license plate match up before getting inside. Passengers should ask open-ended questions to their driver, like “who are you here to pick up?” Instead of “Are you here to pick up [name]?”Trippi and her actual Lyft driver described the imposter driver as a bald, African-American man with an accent. TAMPA, Fla. -- A Hillsborough County, Florida principal and teacher have been arrested on child abuse charges, according to Tampa Police.Michael Hoskinson, principal of Coleman Middle School, and his wife, Kimberly, a Plant High School assistant teacher, were both arrested on Monday night in Tampa. Tampa Police said that on November 2, Michael punched the victim twice in the rib cage. Police said that the force of the punch caused the victim to fall and injure the child's wrist. Michael was yelling at the victim while this occurred, according to the arrest affidavit.Police said that two of the victim's classmates saw the injuries. Michael's wife, Kimberly, was also present during the incident and pushed the child, according to TPD. According to the arrest affidavit, Kimberly later sent a text message that read, "Friendly Reminder: If we ever find a text similar to the one you sent to Coach Stephen a few months ago about 'needing to talk', or whoever else, you'll end up with a lot more then a few bruised ribs..."Officials say that the child involved is not a student in either school the Hoskinson's are employed with and that the child abuse did not happen on a school campus.Hillsborough County Public Schools responded to the incident saying:  1314

State Superintendent Tony Evers defeated incumbent Gov. Scott Walker and will become the next governor of Wisconsin. Evers, a Democrat, won with 50 percent of the vote over the Republican governor Walker. The two were locked in a tight race, with the latest Marquette University Law poll showing the race at a dead heat. Walker has served as Wisconsin’s governor since 2011. Walker and Evers traded barbs over a number of topics, including healthcare. The two disagreed on whether Republicans would keep pre-existing conditions in the healthcare policy while dismantling other portions of the Affordable Care Act. A key element of Walker’s campaign was the issue of taxes, claiming if elected Evers would certainly raise them. In particular, he said Evers would raise the gas tax in the state of Wisconsin. Evers denied having such plans days before Election Day. The two also focused on education in Wisconsin. Evers, the state superintendent, said in a rally the night before the election he planned for a .5 billion increase in K-12 education. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito has ordered county elections officials in Pennsylvania to keep separate mail-in ballots that arrived after Election Day. The state’s top elections official already had ordered those ballots be kept apart.The order came Friday night in response to a plea from the state Republican Party as Democrat Joe Biden inched ahead of President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania in the presidential race.Alito, acting on his own, said he was motivated in part by the Republicans’ assertion that they can’t be sure elections officials are complying with guidance issued by Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar, a Democrat.The justice handles emergency appeals from Pennsylvania. He ordered a response from the state by Saturday afternoon and said he has referred the matter to the full court for further action.The order is related to an ongoing Republican appeal to the Supreme Court to try to keep ballots received in the mail after Election Day from being counted. Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order on Friday limiting certain businesses and services as part of the state’s effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.This decision comes as the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 and the number of hospitalizations have increased and the positivity rate in Texas increased above 10%, which the Governor previously stated would lead to further preventative action.“As I said from the start if the positivity rate rose above 10%, the State of Texas would take further action to mitigate the spread of COVID-19,” Governor Abbott said. “At this time, it is clear that the rise in cases is largely driven by certain types of activities, including Texans congregating in bars. The actions in this executive order are essential to our mission to swiftly contain this virus and protect public health. We want this to be as limited in duration as possible. However, we can only slow the spread if everyone in Texas does their part. Every Texan has a responsibility to themselves and their loved ones to wear a mask, wash their hands, stay six feet apart from others in public, and stay home if they can. I know that our collective action can lead to a reduction in the spread of COVID-19 because we have done it before, and we will do it again.”The targeted, measured directives in the executive order are based on links between certain types of businesses and services and the recent rise in positive cases throughout the state.The order includes the following:All bars and similar establishments that receive more than 51% of their gross receipts from the sale of alcoholic beverages are required to close at noon on Friday.These businesses may remain open for delivery and take-out, including for alcoholic beverages, as authorized by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.Restaurants may remain open for dine-in service, but at capacity not to exceed 50% of total listed indoor occupancy, beginning Monday.Rafting and tubing businesses must close.Outdoor gatherings of 100 or more people must be approved by local governments, with certain exceptions.KXXV first reported this story. 2149
