About 20,000 residents are under mandatory evacuation orders as a Southern California fire -- which authorities say was set intentionally -- spread this week.The Holy Fire started Monday in the Cleveland National Forest and has so far destroyed 12 structures, according to fire authorities.A man has been arrested in connection with the fire that is wreaking havoc near the border between Orange and Riverside counties, which are among the most populous counties in California.The Holy Fire has burned 6,200 acres and is 5% contained.Although it's not the largest fire burning in the state, there are growing concerns about how it could affect residential communities -- including Lake Elsinore. Some small communities in Riverside County are under mandatory evacuation orders affecting about 7,000 residential structures, according to authorities.Forrest Gordon Clark, 51, was being held at the Orange County Jail on Wednesday on suspicion of two counts of felony arson, a count of felony threat to terrorize and misdemeanor resisting arrest, the Cleveland National Forest said via Twitter.He is being held on million bail and expected in court on Thursday.The charges being leveled could carry a life sentence, said Susan Schroeder of the Orange County District Attorney's Office."Arson is a terrible crime that destroys dreams," she said in a press conference Wednesday.Witness statements, physical evidence and fire burn patterns connected the man to the fire, said Shane Sherwood with the Orange County Fire Authority.Volunteer Fire Chief Mike Milligan told the Orange County Register that Clark was screaming in the community and sent an email that said "this place will burn" last week.Before he was arrested, Clark told a cameraman he was asleep when the fire started and had no idea how it began."Who would go out with low humidity, and high wind and highest heat temperatures this time of year and intentionally set the forest on fire?" asked Orange County Supervisor Todd Spitzer during Wednesday's press conference.An excessive heat warning for the fire area has been issued with temperatures higher than 100 degrees."We know this district burns, but it should never burn because of an intentional act," Spitzer said. ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man has died following a deputy-involved shooting in Alpine Monday afternoon.  The man's family later identified him as Daniel Ayala. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, deputies shot Ayala at an apartment complex on the 2600 block of Alpine Boulevard around 3 p.m. during a confrontation.No deputies were injured, sheriff's officials said.According to Lt. Michael Blevins, dispatchers had received several 911 calls reporting a man yelling in the apartment complex. Blevins said at one point he made statements threatening to kill people. A witness told 10News, Ayala had pounded on his door, yelling incoherently.When deputies arrived they say they went up to Ayala's apartment."He exited the apartment with a knife in his hand and advanced towards the deputies," said Lt. Blevins.That's when the deputies opened fire. Blevins said more than one deputy fired a gun, though he said they were still investigating exactly who discharged their weapon and how many shots were fired. 1064

A white van drove onto a busy Toronto sidewalk, and struck dozens of pedestrians, killing 10 and wounding 15, Toronto Police officials said on Monday. Later in the day, police said that Alek Minassian allegedly targeted the crowd of pedestrians. Police were called to the area of Yonge Street at Finch Avenue around 1:30 p.m. local time after the van fled from the scene. Police have since shutdown the area, and blocked off several streets. Authorities later caught up to the van and its driver.Canadian news agency the CBC reported that the van's driver is in custody.Video from the incident showed several ambulances taking away victims on stretchers from the scene of the incident. Stephen Powell, district chief for Toronto Fire, said that targeted pedestrians for up to one mile. The CBC has reported that part of Toronto's subway service has been shutdown. The area is in the North York neighborhood of Toronto, which is several miles north of Downtown. Akash Vukoti, speller 459, from Texas, was the youngest speller in the competition the first time he came to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, at six years old.Akash turns nine Tuesday, on the first day of competition. He's still among the youngest competitors, but the third grader is now a seasoned pro."It feels amazing to be back," he said, "Being in the National Spelling Bee itself is such an honor."Akash said he thinks the competition will be tougher this year -- after all, there are more competitors -- but that the actual spelling is his favorite part of being there. ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) -- The woman authorities say was shot and killed in an Alpine neighborhood Saturday has been identified. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Melanie Benitez, 27, was shot on the 2800 block of North Victoria Drive around 2 p.m. The department also identified the suspect in the case as Paul Paraschak, 42. Deputies say Benitez and Paraschak were dating and lived together in Alpine. An area resident heard a scream and called 911 around 2 p.m. Saturday. Deputies detained Paraschak on foot about a half mile away with two hand guns, said Lt.
