BEIJING, May 31 (Xinhua) -- China's top quality supervisor said Monday that Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co. has started a recall of 236,643 Focus cars over a problem that caused vehicles to stall.The recall covered vehicles manufactured from August 18, 2008, to May 28 this year by the joint venture owned by Ford, Chongqing-based Changan Automobile and Mazda Motor Corp., the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement on its website.The company posted a similar statement on its website Monday, saying the recall came after several customers complained about stalling when the car was moving at low speeds, which was because of the engine software.Both statements said the company would provide the customers with updated engine software free of charge.
SHANGHAI, April 21 (Xinhua) -- China Eastern Airlines resumed some flights to Europe Wednesday, a week after ash from a volcanic eruption in Iceland halted air travel.China Eastern resumed services between Shanghai and some European cities including Moscow, Frankfurt and Paris.The airline had canceled 17 flights bound for London, Moscow, Frankfurt and Paris from April 15 to 20, affecting about 8,000 passengers.The carrier said it used bigger Airbus A346 and A343 models to transport as many stranded passengers as possible.German airline Lufthansa resumed flights from Shanghai to Frankfurt late Tuesday. Other European carriers, including Air France, Virgin Atlantic, KLM and Aeroflot, resumed services between Shanghai and Europe Wednesday. And we never received a report of a school attack," said a spokesman with the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau Thursday afternoon.The police have launched an investigation into the source of the rumor, said the spokesman.The rumor came after a series of recent school attacks in China's Fujian, Guangdong, Jiangsu and Shandong provinces.

KABUL, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese hostages who have been held by Afghan militants for over three months were released Saturday, the Chinese embassy said here Sunday.Yin Juming, the embassy charge d'affaires, told Xinhua that the two Chinese nationals working with the China Railway 14 Bureau were set free by the militants in western Afghanistan's Faryab province.Zhang Fengqiang, an engineer, and Wu Yulin, a worker, were seized by militants who claimed to be Taliban insurgents on Jan. 16 enroute from the working site to the residence camp in the province, said the Chinese diplomat.The duo were awaiting the journey back to China to reunite with their families, he said.
