China has always believed that the development of China-Cuba relations and their military ties are in the fundamental interests of both nations' people, he said.Liang, also a state councilor, said he would like to work with Cuba to further upgrade military ties.Lopez praised China's achievements in social and economic growth, adding that Cuba is willing to learn from China's experience.He also offered his condolences to the the victims of the 7.1-magnitude earthquake jolting northwest China's Qinghai Province on April 14, expressing his hope the two countries can enhance military cooperation in disaster-relief work.Arriving in China April 24, Lopez is scheduled to conclude the official goodwill visit on April 29.He held talks with Chen Bingde, chief of the General Staff of China's People's Liberation Army, here on Sunday.

Hui urged builders, mainly from other parts of China to aid Qinghai's reconstruction efforts, to carefully carry out rebuilding projects with high efficiency and quality.

BEIJING, April 8 (Xinhua) -- China expressed its concerns Thursday about a Chinese coal ship that ran aground off the eastern coast of Australia.Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu told a regular press briefing China is paying close attention to the incident and has taken immediate action to deal with it.China is concerned an oil spill may pollute Australia's Great Barrier Reef, Jiang said, adding that the related shipping company and Australian authorities should enhance cooperation to appropriately address the issue.Jiang said China's embassy in Australia contacted local authorities and urged them to ensure the crew's safety.Australia has taken rescue measures in time, she said, noting that the body of the ship has been kept stable and the crew are safe.The Chinese-owned, 230m-long bulk coal carrier Shen Neng 1 ran aground about 70 km east of Great Keppel Island shortly after 05:00 p.m. local time on Saturday. About two tonnes of fuel oil have spilled, creating a slick about 3 km long and 100 meters wide.The vessel, carrying 950 tonnes of heavy fuel oil and 65,000 tonnes of coal, was bound for China.

  

TOKYO, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao described Tuesday his visit to Japan as successful, saying it has deepened trust, enhanced cooperation and consolidated the foundation for friendship between the two countries.In an interview with Japanese public broadcaster NHK, the Chinese premier called his visit to Japan "a journey of confidence and hope."Wen said he has achieved the visit's objectives of deepening mutual trust, enhancing cooperation and consolidating the foundation for friendship. "The visit is successful," he said.Important agreements were reached at his talks with Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, including re-establishing a hot line between the heads of the two governments, creating a maritime communication mechanism between the two defense departments and speeding up the establishment of a maritime rescue agreement, Wen said.The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation, and identified green economy, energy and environmental protection and e-commerce as priority areas for cooperation, he said."Cooperation between China and Japan enjoys broad prospects," said Wen.The Chinese premier also called for promoting bilateral cultural and people-to-people exchanges, saying these exchanges are fundamental to the friendship between the two countries.After concluding a three-day visit to Japan earlier Tuesday, Wen is now in Mongolia for a two-day official visit.
