San Diego (KGTV)- Heart- pounding moments for visitors at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Powerful gusts tossed riders on the Balloon Safari from side to side. Riders on the balloon held on tight during the gusty landing. “There were some points where the basket was almost tipped completely sideways,” says Jordan Lapidot, who was visiting the park with her family yesterday afternoon. “I have this image in my mind of this guy, and he’s grabbing the outside of the cage as they get just thrown.”The San Diego Zoo Safari Park says the balloon has a long cable in the middle of the cage that safely brings it down from the sky. That cable never broke during the windy ride. “They were trying to get it down as quickly as possible,” says Lapidot. The Safari Park tells 10News if the wind reads over 29 miles per hour they will shut the ride down. They sent us a statement about the incident, saying in part: “As the sudden storm arrived and winds picked up, some operations at the Park, like Balloon Safari and Flightline were closed to public use.”No one was hurt while on the ride. 1090

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A beloved gorilla has died at the San Francisco Zoo & Gardens. The zoo says Zura, a 39-year-old Western lowland gorilla, was being treated for “long-term digestive issues” but her condition recently had worsened and she died Friday.Zura arrived in San Francisco in 1982 from the Columbus Zoo, where her grandmother was Colo. Colo, who died in 2017, was widely known as the first gorilla in the world to be born in captivity. Tanya Peterson, CEO of the San Francisco Zoological Society, says Zura “had a beautiful, distinctive face and a one-of-a-kind personality" and she will be missed. 620

Looking at the coming years, she says there is critical work that needs to be done. Further, she explains her support for SDSU West and her plans to expand SDSU Imperial Valley, “we will continue to capitalize on its untapped potential,” she says. 699

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)--If you've ever seen a traditional Danza Azteca performance, you know it's much more than a show."We always explain to people that these are ceremonial prayers and that we're sharing them not to entertain people although that's part of it because people love seeing it but also to teach the history of the dancing and to teach there's something to learn from everybody," said Mario Aguilar, the Capitan General or leader of Danza Mexi'cayotl. The group is celebrating it's 40th anniversary this year, which makes it the longest running of it's kind in the country.Aguilar says the dancing is just a part of what they offer members."We use the name circle because we consider ourselves, everybody in the circle as family members, we have some people who've been dancing 40 years," he explained. The colorful and elaborate dances are really stories, telling of the ancient indigenous heritage that members are keeping alive.Aguilar says they're also trying to spread a message of unity."We're reminding people that we're all one people we dress differently we talk differently but we all come and go from the same place and that to me is the greatest gift of Azteca Dance." 1194
