Park officials issued a statement on Monday to announce the March 10 closure due to “possible periods of significant rain and high winds.”Park officials say they anticipate opening again on Wednesday, March 11. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego’s rainy winter led to a bug-infested spring which is, in turn, giving away to a spider-filled summer. County of San Diego officials say 2019 could bring a “bumper crop” of orb weaver spiders due to an increase of its food supply. “So, you’re probably going to be running into a lot of spider webs very soon, if you haven’t already,” said County supervising vector ecologist Chris Conlan. Conlan has a term for what happens after a person walks into a web: the crazy spider dance. Orb weaver spiders, which include any spider that weaves a web, are usually not harmful to people, according to Conlan. They generally don’t bite unless they’re threatened. “A well-fed female can be a pretty imposing spider,” Conlan said to County News Center. “But they’re generally nothing to be worried about. In all honesty, if you run into their web, their general reaction is to bail off quick. They don’t like to hang around once something that’s big enough to smash through their web hits it. They know it’s not anything they want to tackle and wrap up to eat.” Conlan recommends avoiding walking through areas spiders can use as anchor points. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University said Tuesday it plans to pause a majority of in-person instruction for the fall term.The university noted that the changes will begin the week of Thanksgiving.“Faculty offering in-person courses are encouraged to shift to virtual, preferably by Friday, Nov. 20. All faculty should convert to virtual instruction no later than Wednesday, Nov. 25,” the university said.The university also said that no in-person research by freshman, sophomores, or volunteers will be allowed for the remainder of the fall semester.The changes come as San Diego County enters the state’s purple tier. Also this week, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that a majority of the state's counties would enter the purple tier, suffocating economic activity. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State University has suspended over a dozen fraternities after a student who attended a reported fraternity event was hospitalized this week with unknown injuries.SDSU President Adela de la Torre suspended Interfraternity Council (IFC) activities citing the "severity of the incident" following the alleged fraternity event Wednesday night, a statement from the school read."Given the severity of this incident, and as the safety and wellbeing of students is a primary concern of the university, SDSU President Adela de la Torre has suspended the Interfraternity Council (IFC) and all chapter organizations under the council," an SDSU media relations officer said Friday.SDSU clarified Saturday that a campus fraternity is "alleged to have been involved in possible misconduct" in the Wednesday event.Prior to Wednesday, the school says six IFC organizations were under suspension and four were under investigation, leading to de la Torre's decision. The suspension affects all 14 IFC fraternities with more than 1,400 members. She said his mouth was foaming, his lips were purple and his skin was yellowing. She performed CPR on him until emergency crews arrived.According to university police, officers were called to a residence hall in the 6100 block of Montezuma Road Thursday morning in response to a student needing medical attention. The student was taken to a nearby hospital, police said."University Police officers quickly arrived to the location of the incident and provided appropriate aid. The student was then transported to a San Diego area hospital," San Diego State University Police Department said.According to university officials, they believe the student had attended a fraternity event the night he fell off his bed.The school did not comment on the student's condition.
