When the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree arrived in New York City, some thought the tree was a perfect metaphor for 2020. WICKENBURG, AZ - A woman was found nearly a week after crashing her car near Wickenburg, Arizona earlier this month, officials say.According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a 53-year-old woman lost control of her vehicle along US-60 near milepost 117 on October 12. Her vehicle reportedly went through a fence, dropped 50 feet and landed in a mesquite tree, suspended over the ground. Six days later, an ADOT worker and rancher noticed the broken fence while trying to corral a cow, and saw the vehicle lodged in the tree. Emergency crews went to the scene and found the vehicle empty. Human tracks from the car led officials toward the Hassayampa riverbed where, 500 yards down, a severely dehydrated woman was found with serious injuries. She told officials that she stayed in the car for several days before climbing out and went toward the railroad tracks hoping someone would find her, however, she didn’t make it that far due to her injuries.      A medical helicopter was called and took her to the hospital for treatment.Officials did not go into further detail about the woman's injuries or the cause of the crash. “The diligence of the ADOT crew and teamwork of everyone involved is exemplary and to be commended. Due to their outstanding efforts, this woman’s life was saved," DPS Director Colonel Frank Milstead said in a media release.  1424

While there are still questions about whether trick-or-treating will happen in 2020 and how neighborhoods will make it possible, there is no question Americans like their Halloween candy.Sales of Halloween candy and chocolate at grocery stores are up 17 percent over 2019 so far this season, according to the National Confectioners Association. Total sales, including online purchases, is up 13 percent year-over-year.The National Confectioners Association, NCA, represents manufacturers and suppliers of sweet treats, gum, mints and chocolates.Their research showed chocolate is driving the increase. Halloween chocolate sales are up 25 percent over 2019 so far. The NCA released data over the summer showing chocolate was the treat of choice of Americans during the pandemic, with sales increasing five percent March through August over the same time period in 2019. Sales of premium chocolate during that time was up 12 percent year-over-year. Ferrara Candy, which makes Sweetarts, Nerds, Brach’s Candy Corn, Gobstoppers and more, said Halloween sales bring in about .5 billion in sales. In an interview with Axios, CEO Todd Siwak said their company learned a lot from the drop in sales for Easter. This was also the time many stores were closing because of lockdowns to stop the spread of the coronavirus. With billions of dollars in federal aid slated to expire within hours, thousands of airline employees are bracing for potential job layoffs and furloughs in the coming days.The CARES Act, passed by Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump in March, allocated billion in federal aid for U.S. airline companies who were floundering amid the COVID-19 pandemic. However, those bills were only allocated through Oct. 1 — meaning that aid expires on Thursday.Several airlines have already announced that they will be forced to lay off thousands of workers if Congress does not pass a bill that would allocate more bailouts to the airline industry.In August, Delta issued a WARN notice of potential mass layoffs with the state of Georgia that more than 2,500 more could face extended furloughs. The company has already offered early retirement packages to thousands of pilots.According to the Associated Press, American Airlines informed employees in August that it will cut more than 40,000 jobs — 19,000 of them through furlough and layoffs — in October if the business environment did not improve.On Monday, pilots with United Airlines approved a plan that would avoid the furlough of 2,850 pilots which would have begun Oct. 1. In exchange, pilots agreed to reduce their minimum work hours. The airline still plans to cut 19,000 jobs in October, according to CNBC.CNBC also reports that there is bipartisan support to offer more federal aid to the airline industry.
