(KGTV) - After hours of listening to public comment, the Chula Vista Planning Commission decided to table and continue an item that would bring a new recreational storage facility to the city's Eastlake area. The proposed facility would store 80 to 100 vehicles, like boats or RVs, on land between Eastlake High School and Antigua, a gated town-home community.Homeowners begged the planning commission to not accept the plans for the facility saying it would be an eyesore for their properties and lower their property values. The property manager of Titan Storage also made his case before the commissioners, citing the need for the facility in a part of town that is growing quickly. RV owners asked the commission to consider accepting the plan because they say surrounding RV lots are full, forcing them to store their vehicles across town. Ultimately, three commissioners said they could not support the plan as presented and voted instead to continue the item to a future date, giving the storage company time to present a revised plan. So far, no date is scheduled for the next public hearing on this issue. 1143

(KGTV) - A vandal that struck overnight in a Chula Vista neighborhood was apparently targeting high-end vehicles.The Jovel family first noticed something was wrong Sunday morning in front of their home along Via Escalante."Upsetting and bizarre," said Jesse Jovel.His sister saw a flat tire on his Mercedes SUV parked in the driveway and ran inside to tell him about it. Jovel came outside, saw the flat, but then found much more: scratches across the body and tires of the Mercedes."I thought it was not happening, that it was a joke," said Jovel.They ran to the street, where his sister's Mercedes was parked. "Her car was the same way, and the car behind it and the car behind it," said Jovel.One of those cars was Jovel's other vehicle, a Maserati Ghibli. It was also keyed all over. Two of its tires were sliced and flattened."Sad. Very sad that people are willing to do this just for the heck of it," said Jovel.Jovel says a total of at least six other vehicles were targeted. He barely looked at the others but remembers them being new and high-end vehicles. The open-air center converts to a bustling farmers market, playing host to dozens of vendors. 10News anchor Kimberly Hunt spent an afternoon with a welcoming group of local artisans, whose love of food, culture and community shines through. She also stopped by a sushi stand, making savory rice bowls with tempura shrimp. Next was South Bay Salsas, a beautiful blend of fresh, seasonal Mexican/American fusion. “Every week, it's a little different. Mangoes are fresh, sometimes a little more ripe. You take it like it is”, says South Bay Salsas owner Scott Strickland. Strickland and his wife have grown their booming Chula Vista business by adding to their seasonal selections. New to the farmers market this day was Frida’s street tacos. Owner Robert Ayala tried for 3 years to get a stand at the farmers market. Ayala says his first day was a great success. “Serving our people, our community, with our tacos," Ayala said.The love each of these vendors brings to their cooking comes through in every bite. It wouldn’t be a farmers market without farm to table produce. Remberto Cepera owns a produce stand, selling fresh fruit grown on his land. On this day, he has fresh picked prickly pears.“We picked these yesterday," Cepera said.The devotion to his craft is evident. He has seen these beautiful fruits through winter’s frost and summer’s heat. The taste is extraordinary.“It's delicious, and it's good for you," said Cepera. There is a lot more to this farmers market than the farm. There is something for people of all ages. You can take a trip back in time with bomber jackets or flashy disco jackets. A balloon artist delights children while their parents shop.“A lot of people come here for a good time with the family. Tons of great food, tons of great art” said Leo, a balloon artist who has lived in Chula Vista his whole life. He has performed at the farmers market for the past decade. Chick-Fil-A is testing a new menu item in Arizona, and depending on how it goes, it could be rolled out to menus nationwide.Starting Monday, spicy chicken strips will be available at Chick-Fil-A restaurants in Phoenix, Tucson and Yuma, the fast-food chain said.They've been under test in Philadelphia and Texas since last year.The strips come in orders of three or four, and a choice of dipping sauce.The company said it combined their original chicken strips and spicy chicken strip sandwich to create the new menu item.The strips are seasoned with a spicy blend of peppers, hand-breaded, and cooked in refined peanut oil. (KGTV) — New businesses are set to call the Otay Ranch Town Center home in the coming months. Just a few months ago, the mall had more than a dozen empty storefronts and employees at the mall called it a ghost town. The new businesses moving in include Novo Brazil Brewing, Planet Fitness, and Barons Market.LONGFORM: Vacant storefronts reflect mall struggles at Otay Ranch Town CenterBrookfield Property Partners took over full ownership of the mall six weeks ago. It was a part of a larger merger across the country. The mall's general manager, Steven Sayers, sat down with 10News."Nothing was going wrong with the property at all. It was just, some of it was just timing with expiring leases and unfortunately, some tenants just left," says Sayers.Sayers says these new businesses were already in the works before the merger.
