Ellen DeGeneres is considering ending her run on daytime talk.DeGeneres told the New York Times in a new interview that she's mulling what to do once her contract comes to an end in 2020.DeGeneres renewed her deal in 2016 but had been "close to declining" the offer that would have kept her in front of daytime audiences through Season 17, according to the Times. The comedian and host reportedly is torn between advice given to her from two significant people in her life: her brother and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi."She (de Rossi) gets mad when my brother tells me I can't stop," DeGeneres told the Times.De Rossi, meanwhile, told the Times that she believes her wife has "other things she could tackle.""The Ellen DeGeneres Show" has won 57 Daytime Emmys since its debut in 2003. 806

Far-right groups and counterprotesters are expected to converge on the nation's capital Sunday, one year after a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, left one person dead and elevated racial tensions in America. The "Unite the Right 2" rally is being billed as a "white civil rights rally" meant to protest "civil rights abuse in Charlottesville."Sunday's demonstrations and the opposing rallies are taking place in an atmosphere of heightened racial tension. In recent months, anxiety over racial bias and racism has been exemplified in instances in which police were called on people of color for innocuous acts like napping in a dormitory common room, having a barbecue and going to the pool. This week, NFL players in the first preseason games resumed their protests over police brutality against blacks by raising their fists, kneeling or sitting out during the National Anthem. 905

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Students at Classic Academy High School will return to school Tuesday without one of their own, who was tragically killed in a car accident over the weekend. Jonah Staebell died early Saturday morning when the truck he was riding in crashed. CHP officials say the accident happened at about 2:35 a.m. on Saturday on Summit Drive and Old Pasqual Road. Officers say seven teens were riding in a pick-up truck when the 18-year-old driver lost control and overturned. Five teens, including Staebell, were riding in the bed of the truck and all of them were ejected. Staebell died at the hospital. Staebell's principal, Dana Moen spoke to 10News Monday night. Moen remembered Jonah as a beloved student who did well in the classroom and in athletics. Moen says Staebell played football, lacrosse, and was a dancer. School officials tell 10News students officially go back to school on Tuesday and grief counselors will be on-site for as long as they're needed. According to Moen, the other teens involved in the accident were all treated at the hospital but have since been released. CHP says speed was a factor in the crash, but drugs or alcohol were not involved. According to the family's GoFundMe page, Jonah was the youngest of four siblings. ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - City leaders in Encinitas plan to ban gas-powered leaf blowers to help curb the effects of climate change. They're hosting a public meeting about the ban Monday night, May 13, at 6 p.m. at the Encinitas Community Center (1140 Oakcrest Park Drive). The ban is part of the City's bigger Climate Action Plan, which the City Council approved in January of 2018. It calls for a 41 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 when compared to 2012 baseline levels. The plan says removing emissions from gas-powered leaf blowers would remove 142 Metric Tons of CO2 by 2030. That's the equivalent of taking roughly 25 cars off the road. While it's not a huge improvement, people in Encinitas say every small step will help."I think they ought to be eliminated everywhere," says David Winkler, who goes to Encinitas to meet friends. "The less reliance on fossil fuels, the better.""People come from all over the world here, so we should make it as clean and beautiful as we can," says Encinitas resident Linda, who declined to give her last name. "Anything we can do to lessen pollution is always a good thing."Other North County cities already have bans in place. Solana Beach and Del Mar both prohibit the use of gas-powered leaf blowers.City leaders in Encinitas say their rule is different because it bases the ban on environmental concerns, rather than noise pollution. The ban only covers two-stroke leaf blowers. Other gas-powered tools like weed whackers and chain saws will still be allowed. If the ban is approved, it will take effect immediately for all city-run operations. After three months, any business licensed to operate in Encinitas will have to comply. After six months, the ban will cover everyone else in the City. The City has a website with more information about the ban and the overall Climate Action Plan. 1863

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - Surveillance video shows a thief going shopping overnight at a trailer company in Escondido."It's heartbreaking," said Alea Barreto, manager at Norco Trailers.Barreto says on Saturday night, video shows a pickup truck parked outside their fence. Nearby, a man appears to be scoping things out. The next night, just before midnight, he's back. He retrieves something from the truck and uses it to cut a hole in the fence. Once that happens, he backs his truck through the hole and onto the property, before he begins hauling away trailers. On the video, a man in a hoodie is seen browsing the lot. He hitches a landscaping trailer, but before he can get it out, the trailer becomes detached. He attaches it and drives off."Every time I watch it, it's more painful," said Barreto. The pain is felt over and over. Not long after the truck is seen leaving, the truck is back and hauling away another trailer. Within a few hours, four trailers are stolen. Three of the thefts are caught on video. The total loss is about ,000. The company is insured, but a possible hike in insurance rates is not worth it. They've decided to eat the cost. The business is a family-owned shop. "Just trying to put food on the family table, and nope, someone else feels like they deserve it instead," said Barreto. The truck is believed to be a silver GMC or Chevy pickup. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 888-580-8477. 1457
