BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with Chi Jae Ryong, Ambassador of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to China, and held phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and ROK Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan on Friday.They exchanged views on issues including the situation of the Korean Peninsula, according to a statement released Friday night by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.Yang said China gives utmost attention to the exchange of fire between the DPRK and the ROK which happened days ago, and is very concerned about the development of the situation.The DPRK and the ROK should exercise calm and restraint, engage in contacts as soon as possible, and solve problems through negotiations and dialogue, Yang said."The pressing task now is to put the situation under control and prevent a recurrence of similar incidents," he said.Parties related should actively work for peace and facilitate talks, jointly safeguard peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula while adopting responsible attitudes, Yang said.Parties involved should work together for an early restart of the six-party talks, and push forward denuclearization process of the Korean Peninsula, Yang said.The DPRK, the ROK and the U.S. sides elaborated on their views on the current situation, and expressed the importance they attached to China's stance and their willingness to maintain contacts with the Chinese side.The ROK and the DPRK exchanged artillery fire Tuesday in waters off the west coast of the Korean Peninsula, leaving four people dead.China on Friday also voiced its opposition to any military acts in its exclusive economic zone without permission, days before a joint military exercise between United States and ROK on the Yellow Sea."We hold a consistent and clear-cut stance on the issue. We oppose any party to take any military acts in our exclusive economic zone without permission," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said in a statement Friday.

BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Remote villages across Yongning County of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region have been connected to a safe water supply thanks to a newly-completed water project.The project, launched in August 2010 and concluded on Nov. 27, has ensured that 100,000 people in 44 villages of Yongning will have access to safe water for drinking.People in the county had long suffered from a severe shortage of safe water because the area's surface water contained excessive amounts of fluorin and iron.The project was initiated after local authorities increased their efforts to provide safe drinking water after Chinese President Hu Jintao visited the region.During an inspection to a well-drilling site at Yuanlin Village of southern Yongning on March 23, 2010, President Hu stressed that efforts be made to ensure more people have access to safe water supplies.

DUSHANBE, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- China and Tajikistan will enhance high-level contacts, expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields to fully develop their relations of good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation, said a joint communique signed on Thursday by the two countries.Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao signed the communique with his Tajik counterpart Akil Akilov in his two-day visit to the Central Asian nation. BEIJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese Internet giants -- Tencent and Qihoo 360, apologized to Internet users after being ordered to stop their spat and officials vowed to investigate the dispute to determine whether actions by either company had broken the law.Both of the companies posted an apology letter on the company websites Sunday night.Qihoo 360 said the companies' software had resumed operation and the two sides would stop mutual accusations.This was after China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) Sunday ordered the two companies to publicly apologize within five working days.The business war between the two Internet giants had triggered a public outcry.Tencent, China's largest Internet company, said on Nov. 3 that it would shut down the QQ instant-messaging service on computers installed with security software made by Qihoo 360 following a dispute between the companies.Tencent's move marked an escalation in its dispute with Qihoo 360 that began more than one month ago. The two sides have accused the other of improper business practices.On Sept. 27, Qihoo 360 accused QQ of invading the privacy of its users through scanning, monitoring and loading information with QQ doctor, a security software developed by Tencent.Following this, Qihoo 360 released a safety software called "Koukou Guard" on Oct. 29, claiming it could speed up QQ and offer more privacy to its users. BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- China will carry out the House Sale Price Statistical Scheme in 2011, after soliciting opinions via the internet earlier this year, said Ma Jiantang, head of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Thursday.Ma made the remarks at a national statistics work conference, saying the bureau had accepted suggestions from various departments and experts and would work steadily reform the method of calculating the country's house sale prices in 2011."We'll further work with real estate departments, make full use of their network data, and check the authenticity of the data to further push forward the statistical scheme reform," Ma said.The NBS was committed to improve the scheme at the beginning of the year. It released the draft plan on September 25, which said prices, floor areas, and sales of newly-constructed houses in 35 major cities would be based upon data from local real estate departments, instead of independent research.Ma said that the bureau is working on 4 key systems, including building a database for basic surveyed units, one set of standards for surveyed enterprises, data collecting and processing software systems, and direct reporting network systems."The four systems are aimed to guarantee the authenticity, integrity and timeliness of the data," he said.By 2012, above-scale enterprises, above-norm wholesale and retail accommodations and catering businesses, construction enterprises, and real estate enterprises will be able to submit their data directly to a national data center, said the NBS.Also, about 550 cities across the country will use personal digital assistants (PDA) to collect data for the consumer price index (CPI), a major gauge of inflation, as well as farm produce prices, by the end of 2012, the NBS said.
