HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — A hate crime investigation is underway by the Virginia Commonweath's Attorney against the self-proclaimed president of the Virginia KKK after he allegedly drove his pickup truck into a group of protesters on Sunday.36-year-old Harry Rogers of Hanover, Virginia, was arrested Sunday after police say several witnesses saw Rogers rev his engine and drive into a crowd of protesters.The person who called police was checked by rescue at the scene and refused further treatment.The protest was one of the dozens of anti-police brutality marches that have taken place around the nation following the Memorial Day death of George Floyd.No one was injured during the incident. One protester reported that his bicycle was damaged.Rogers appeared in Henrico Court Monday morning, where he agreed to receive a court-appointed attorney. He was formally charged with two felonies — attempted malicious wounding and destruction of property — as well as misdemeanor assault and battery.During Monday's court appearance, prosecutors alleged Rogers told his arresting officers that he was the president of the Ku Klux Klan in Virginia and the highest-ranking member currently not in prison."The accused, by his own admission and by a cursory glance at social media, is an admitted leader of the Ku Klux Klan and a propagandist for Confederate ideology," Henrico County Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor said in a statement. "We are investigating whether hate crimes charges are appropriate."She urged witnesses to call Henrico Police at 804-501-5000."While I am grateful that the victim's injuries do not appear to be serious, an attack on peaceful protesters is heinous and despicable and we will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law," she said. It also specifies that individuals without the condition can serve but only if they do so according to the sex they were assigned at birth.District courts across the country have so far blocked the policy from going into effect. (AP) -- Authorities say a thief took a break during his burglary of a Southern California pizzeria to make himself a pizza pie before fleeing with the restaurant's delivery car.Police say Oscar Sanchez broke into Big Slice Pizza in Fullerton, Calif., on Nov. 8. He was arrested on Wednesday and police posted security video of the pizza-making on Facebook on Friday.Officials say Sanchez allegedly also stole the pizzeria's cash and tablets.Security footage shows him stretching dough at the restaurant's counter.It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf. 620

GENEVA (AP) — The U.N. humanitarian office says needs for assistance have ballooned to unprecedented levels this year because of COVID-19, projecting that a staggering 235 million people will require help in 2021.This comes as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and global challenges, including conflicts, forced migration, and the impact of global warming.“The humanitarian system again proved its worth in 2020, delivering food, medicines, shelter, education, and other essentials to tens of millions of people,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres in a press release. “But the crisis is far from over. Humanitarian aid budgets face dire shortfalls as the impact of the global pandemic continues to worsen. Together, we must mobilize resources and stand in solidarity with people in their darkest hour of need.”The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, or OCHA, expects a 40% increase in the number of people in need of such assistance in 2021 compared to this year.OCHA made the projections in its latest annual Global Humanitarian Overview on Tuesday, saying its hopes to reach 160 million of those people in need will cost billion.
