SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man who wounded an off-duty sheriff's deputy and a bystander by opening fire in the Gaslamp District two years ago was convicted of assault with a firearm Thursday in his third trial in the case. Ray Pitoau, 39, was convicted of two counts of assault with a firearm for the Aug. 7, 2017 shooting that injured Deputy Jason Philpot, who was walking through downtown with his two brothers following a Metallica concert at Petco Park. Also injured was bystander Vladimir Shvets, a passerby in San Diego for a convention. Pitoau was convicted in a prior trial of three felony firearm possession counts and was sentenced to 27-years-to-life for those convictions. Jason Philpot testified that he tried to wrap his arms around Pitoau and get the gun away, but the defendant was able to pull the trigger, wounding the deputy in the chest and right arm. A second round also passed through his right arm. One of the rounds ricocheted off the sidewalk and struck Shvets. Pitoau testified that he grabbed a gun in self-defense because a group of men, including Philpot, were advancing on him. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A new indictment unsealed Thursday against the owner/operators of San Diego-based pornographic website GirlsDoPorn.com alleges that co-owner Michael James Pratt -- who remains on the lam on federal sex trafficking charges -- also produced pornographic content involving a 16-year- old girl. Pratt was charged in a complaint last month along with three others with sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion for allegedly filming victims under the guise of distributing the videos only to private clients, then disseminating the videos online without the victims' knowledge or consent. The new indictment adds two additional defendants and charges of production of child pornography and sex trafficking of a minor against Pratt alone, with the incidents allegedly occurring in September 2012. Once the victims learned the work involved pornography, the defendants allegedly told them the videos would be distributed to private clients -- usually living overseas -- and not disseminated on the internet. To help convince the women to participate, reference women like Nored were allegedly hired to lie to the women and claim they had also filmed pornographic videos for the defendants, which were never posted on the internet. The defendants are also currently involved in a San Diego civil trial involving a lawsuit filed by 22 women who appeared in videos on the site. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorist was killed in a fiery solo vehicle crash off Interstate 5 in the Barrio Logan area, authorities said Monday.The crash was reported shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday on southbound I- 5 near Cesar E.
