CDC head Robert Redfield said on Thursday that he is concerned that the civil unrest could lead to coronavirus “seeding” events, which could prompt a new outbreak of the virus.Speaking before a House Appropriations subcommittee on Thursday, Redfield said he is fretful that Americans aren’t heeding the organization’s social distancing guidance. “We really want those individuals to highly consider being evaluated and get tested, and obviously, go from there, because I do think there is a potential, unfortunately, for this to be a seeding event,” Redfield said about the protests, especially those in major metropolitan areas with a significant spread of the virus. “And the way to minimize that is to have each individual to recognize it's to the advantage of them to protect their loved ones. ‘Hey, I was out, I need to go get tested,’ you know, in three, five, seven days, go get tested, make sure you're not infected.”While the daily number of new cases has decreased from its peak in April, a number of states are continuing to see an increase in cases. On Thursday, the state of Florida announced its largest jump in infections, with 1,400 new coronavirus cases. With social distancing guidelines being flouted amid massive civil unrest following the death, Redfield said that seeding events have been found to be responsible for a large number of cases nationally. “Obviously, we're very concerned that our public health message isn't resonating,” Redfield said. “We continue to try to figure out how to penetrate the message with different groups.”Redfield was asked whether he would recommend tear gas not be used at protests as the chemical agents can cause protesters to cough and spread more particles into the air. Redfield said it is a concern he shares and he will bring up the the question at the next White House coronavirus task force meeting. “We have advocated strongly the ability to have face coverings and masks available to protesters so that they can at least have those coverings, but you do raise an important question,” Redfield responded. 2083

Employees for the online retailer Wayfair say they plan a walkout from company headquarters Wednesday in protest of the company selling furniture to migrant detention facilities.According to a woman identifying herself as an employee of the company, Wayfair employees learned last week that an order for about 0,000 worth of bedroom furniture was placed by BCFS, which operates migrant facilities for the Department of Health and Human Services. BCFS is set to open a new facility in Carrizo Springs, Texas, which will accommodate about 1,600 unaccompanied minors.More than 500 employees sent a letter Friday to senior management, asking the company to no longer do business with BCFS. They also asked Wayfair to establish a code of ethics that "empowers Wayfair and its employees to act in accordance with our core values." CNN has seen a copy of the email sent by employees to Wayfair senior management."The United States government and its contractors are responsible for the detention and mistreatment of hundreds of thousands of migrants seeking asylum in our country — we want that to end," the employees said in the letter. "We also want to be sure that Wayfair has no part in enabling, supporting, or profiting from this practice."Wayfair management responded in a letter to employees, also obtained by CNN, saying it still plans to do business with BCFS."As a retailer, it is standard practice to fulfill orders for all customers and we believe it is our business to sell to any customer who is acting within the laws of the countries within which we operate," the Wayfair's leadership team said in the letter. "This does not indicate support for the opinions or actions of the groups or individuals who purchase from us."Wayfair has not yet responded to CNN's request for comment.Wayfair employees announced on Twitter their plan to stage a walkout Wednesday afternoon in response to the company letter. The Wayfair employee who spoke to CNN said the walkout is "not meant as a censure on Wayfair," but as a way to show workers' continued concern. They are also asking the company to donate all profits made from the sale of the furniture to RAICES, a nonprofit that reunites families at the border. CHICAGO, Ill. – Contigo is recalling about 5.7 million of its kids water bottles because their clear silicone spouts can detach, posing a choking hazard to children. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall Wednesday, saying Contigo has received a total of 427 reports of the spouts detaching, including 27 spouts found in children’s mouths. The affected water bottles were sold at Costco, Walmart, Target and other stores nationwide, as well as online on various websites, from April 2018 through February 2020 for between and . The water bottles were sold individually as well as in two-packs and three-packs.The water bottles come in three sizes (13 ounce, 14 ounce and 20 ounce) and four colors (solid color, graphics, stainless steel and stainless steel solid colors). The CPSC says the base and cover of the clear silicone spout will always be black, and only black colored spout base and spout cover models are included in this recall. Contigo is printed on the rim and along the front near the bottom of the bottles. In addition to the water bottles, the recall also involves replacement lids that were given to consumers as part of an August 2018 recall of the same product. The CPSC says consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bottles and take them away from children. Consumers with the products should contact Contigo for a free replacement bottle. 1417
