Xi'AN, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said China's economic performance is consistent with the government's macro-economic controls while on a three-day visit to Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, that ended Sunday.Wen visited Shaanxi Automobile Group Co. Ltd. The 42-year-old company is one of China's top five truck producers.Wen inspected an assembly line that produces a heavy truck every six minutes. He also talked with workers and fitted wheels to a tractor truck under the workers' direction."We must maintain the continuity and stability of macro-economic policies to ensure favorable external conditions for enterprises. But a company's growth ultimately relies on its inner drive. Companies should improve quality, develop new products and expand their market," he said.Wen also visited Shaanxi Huasheng (Group) Corp. Fruit Co. Ltd., a high-tech agriculture company in the apple industry. The company has production bases in more than 20 counties."The global economy is recovering, but at a slow pace. There are many uncertainties. We should expand domestic demand while stabilizing overseas demand," he said."Only through sound and relatively fast economic growth can we ensure employment and facilitate the restructuring of the economic development mode," he said.Wen also visited the Sixth Research Institute of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation and the Northwest Institute for Non-ferrous Metals Research."The world is experiencing a technological revolution and one of its key fields is materials technology. We must always remember that high technologies cannot be bought. We have to rely on ourselves," he said.Wen visited Zhujiang New Town, a residential community providing affordable housing for low-income groups. There, he entered the home of 72-year-old He Jing, a retired teacher.
BEIJING,July 11 (Xinhua) -- China issued a new anti-corruption regulation Sunday to require officials to report changes in their marital status, the whereabouts of their spouses and children if they have moved abroad, personal incomes, housing as well as their family' s investments. The new regulation was issued by the General Office of China's State Council and the General Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee. The regulation defines "officials" as those leaders holding official ranks of and above county level in government agencies, democratic parties, public institutions, state owned enterprises and state holding enterprises. The new regulation requires officials to report changes in their marital status and the location of their spouses and children if they have moved abroad, within 30 days after such a change takes place.Specifically, officials should report their ownership of passports or visas and their children's marital status if they are married to foreigners or residents of Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.Officials should also report any businesses their spouses and children are involved in, both within China and abroad. The new regulation also requires officials to report their ownership of property, including property in their spouses' or children's names, their family's investment in financial assets and in enterprises.According to the regulation, if officials fail to report honestly or in a timely fashion, they would face punishment to various degrees, even as harsh as removal of official ranks. The regulation also ordered party organizations at all levels to strengthen management and supervision over officials to guarantee the implementation of the regulation. This regulation is considered an important measure to ensure strict self-discipline for Party and government officials and to improve the intra-Party supervision system.

CANBERRA, June 21 (Xinhua) -- The relationship between China and Australia is expected to be further boosted with over 20 documents of cooperation signed during the visit of Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping, Australia's media reported on Monday."The high-level visit of Xi and hundreds of aides has made it clear how keen the two countries are to do business," the Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported after the announcement of the deal in Canberra on Monday.According to AAP, Chinese companies will build mines, railways and port facilities in Australia under a series of deals. The new agreements are not only in the resources and energy sectors, but also include telecommunications, education and a quarantine protocol for exporting Tasmanian apples to China.Under one deal, Chinese companies will help fund an 8-billion-U. GENEVA, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Wu Bangguo, China's top legislator, on Monday called for the international community to demonstrate confidence, strengthen cooperation and safeguard peace to speed up the realization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)."The parliament should supervise and support its own government to implement the MDGs, to take peaceful and friendly foreign policy, and to properly handle sensitive issues in bilateral ties and international relations," Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said at the opening ceremony of the third World Conference of Speakers of Parliament. The MDGs, endorsed by UN members in 2000, set out eight targets ranging from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS by 2015.Wu Bangguo (4th R, Front), chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), poses for a group photo with other participants of the third World Conference of Speakers of Parliament held in Geneva, Switzerland, July 19, 2010."Over the past decade, the world has been achieving results on the MDGs, but the progress remains slow," Wu said. "Developing countries, especially the most underdeveloped countries, are in escalated economic difficulties and the gaps between the north and the south widen."Wu said that implementation of the MDGs becomes more crucial under the impact of the global financial crisis in particular. He said confidence is the premise of realizing the MDGs. The global financial crisis has an impact that can not be neglected on the implementation of the MDGs, but the world should aware that the MDGs and dealing with the crisis are not contradictory, Wu said.He stressed it will be more significant for the international community to speed up the MDGs' implementation process while there still exists in-depth impact of the financial crisis and uncertainty of the world economy's systematic and structural risks.
