PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — An elementary school principal was arrested on Thursday for allegedly stealing 0 from a 9-year-old child.Pasco County deputies arrested Connerton Elementary School principal Edward John Abernathy.The Sheriff's Office say that on Oct. 23, the 9-year-old student, who is mentally handicapped brought some of his parents' money to school. When teachers realized how much money the child had, they took the money, counted it and put it in the principal's office.When the mother of the child went to school to get the money, deputies say the principal gave her only ,200 not the ,100 her child had brought to school."Subsequent investigation by deputies determined the principal kept the 0 difference," the Pasco County Sheriff's Office wrote in a press release.Deputies booked the 50-year-old Abernathy into the Pasco County Jail on one charge of grand theft.Officials with Pasco County Schools say that Abernathy will be placed on administrative leave as they investigate. 1048

(KGTV) -- Police are searching for a person of interest after a mother and daughter were shot and killed at an Otay Mesa home Sunday morning.San Diego Police were called to the residence on the 4300 block of Ebersole Drive after receiving reports of shots fired around 8:30 a.m.When police arrived they found a 37-year-old woman in the front yard with a gunshot wound.Police then learned that another woman was injured inside the house. They found a 65-year-old woman, also suffering from gunshot wounds.Both of the women who were shot died from their injuries. Police believe that the person of interest in the case, Justice Love Peace, aka. Jeremiah Horton, took a 6-month-old boy from the home. Shortly after 3 p.m., police said they had safely located the 6-month-old boy, but were still searching for Horton.Horton is considered armed and dangerous.Police believe Horton is the infant's father, the 37-year-old woman is the infant's mother, and the 65-year-old woman is the 37-year-old's mother. (KGTV) - Eight border wall prototypes erected along the U.S.-Mexico border crossing in South San Diego County will soon be dismantled, a Border Patrol source confirmed to 10News Friday. The area is being cleared to make way for the secondary border fence, the official said.The Department of Homeland Security hired companies to build the prototypes, which were finished in October 2017. The designs were constructed to the Border Patrol’s requirements and stood 30 feet high, most made of thick concrete. “We’ll look at things like aesthetics, how penetrable they area, how resistant they are to tampering, and then scaling or anti-climb features,” CBP Deputy Commissioner Ronald Vitiello said in 2017. (WTMJ) -- A Wisconsin woman has been charged with second degree recklessly endangering safety after she allegedly had her 9-year-old son ride on top of her minivan to hold down a plastic pool.According to the criminal complaint, it happened around 3 p.m. local time on Sept. 9, when officers responded to reports of a child riding on top of a minivan.A 911 caller followed Amber Schmunk, 28, of Fredonia, until she pulled over and took her child and the pool off the vehicle's roof. Schmunk then continued driving down the road and stopped at her sister’s house where police caught up with her.Schmunk told police picked up the pool at a residence but did not have enough room inside the minivan. She said she “decided to put the pool on top of the minivan, but had no way to strap it down, so she had her child climb on the roof and hold it down while she drove.”Schmunk admitted to police she had her oldest son ride on top of the minivan, “but only for a short time, maybe 20-30 seconds.” Schmunk later stated it was safe because she used a strap to tie the child down on top of the pool.She also told the officer that she believed it was “ok” as her father let her do things like that when she was that age.Schmunk will be back in court on Nov. 14.
