As people start letting house cleaners back into their homes, there are new protocols you should know about and new challenges out there because of COVID-19.The home cleaning industry was hit hard by the pandemic, because of everyone's fear. But as things start opening up, people want the service back. Brian Wiersma is a strategic initiatives and branch operations manager for Merry Maids.“A lot of our customers, they need our help cleaning their home and when you look at the CDC guidelines, the first step in maintaining a healthy home is to clean it before you disinfect it,” said Wiersma.He says, like everyone else, Merry Maids has had to adjust and adapt to every new recommendation from the CDC. No masks at first, and now masks all the time. There are new protocols for their team members and for their clients.“If you’re sick please, let us know even if it’s not COVID,” said Wiersma. “Let us know if you’re sick, so we can reschedule you just to be overly cautious.”They're asking employees to self-monitor, pay attention to everything they might feel, COVID-19 or not. They suggest clients either leave or remain in one part of the home. They bring their own equipment and clean the cleaning supplies when they're done.“As the team leaves the home, they take off the mask, they disinfect the kit before they put it in their vehicle to go to the next home, so they’re not taking contaminants into their vehicle and taking it to another customer,” said Wiersma.There are training videos, daily checklists, and they've even held meetings about how to take your gloves off.“It’s little things but in the same respect, it’s important things,” said Wiersma. “You take all these steps to be careful and precautious and at the very last step, if you don’t take your gloves off right you, might as well not have done the rest of them as far as keeping the team safe.”Angel Gatewood, 24, has been cleaning for Merry Maids for the past year. The hardest part for her, someone who loves customers and customer service, has been keeping her client relationships at a distance.“I still try to maintain that personal relationship with my customers which I think is important because I’m in their house every other week touching their things,” said Gatewood. “Your home is your personal bubble. When somebody enters it, you have to have that trust and I like to maintain that."She loves to connect with people and loves her detail-oriented job, but she has asthma and now has to be even more cautious than ever.“I personally take those extra steps,” she said. “I take my inhaler in every time. I wear two pairs of gloves. I also have eczema. It’s a double problem. I wear two pairs of gloves and the mask every time.”Wiersma says while COVID-19 has been challenging, it's about to get busier than ever as people realize health starts in the home."Merry Maids has been around for 40 years and Service Master for 90 years of cleaning and disinfecting, we'll stay who we are and that has helped us sustain through the crisis, but come out of it on a stronger footing." 3118
FBI agents who raided the home, office and hotel of Donald Trump's personal lawyer sought communications that Trump had with attorney Michael Cohen and others regarding the infamous "Access Hollywood" tape that captured Trump making lewd remarks about women, which surfaced a month before the election, according to sources familiar with the matter.The warrant's specific reference to Trump is the first known direct mention of the President in a search warrant, and sources said it appeared in connection with "Access Hollywood."One of the sources said the warrant also referenced an investigation into wire fraud and bank fraud. CNN previously reported FBI agents removed Cohen's computer, cellphone, business files and financial documents, according to the source.The search warrant also sought communications between then-candidate Trump and his associates regarding efforts to prevent disclosure of the tape, according to one of the sources. In addition, investigators wanted records and communications concerning other potential negative information about the candidate that the campaign would have wanted to contain ahead of the election. The source said the warrant was not specific about what this additional information would be.The warrant is the first indication that investigators suspect there was any effort to suppress the tape. It is not clear Cohen played any role in the Access Hollywood controversy.Another source familiar with the matter confirmed to CNN that agents sought information regarding the Access Hollywood tape, as The New York Times first reported.An attorney for Cohen didn't respond immediately to request for comment. Cohen's attorney has said the search was carried out on behalf of the US attorney's office in Manhattan in part because of a referral from special counsel Robert Mueller.The warrant itself also tracks very closely to information already known about efforts by Trump's team to suppress negative information about Stormy Daniels, a porn star who alleges a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006, and Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model who says she had an affair with Trump between 2006 and 2007, the source said. (KGTV) - A retired Escondido homeowner is figuring out how she'll pay for Thanksgiving dinner after everything she bought for the holiday was spoiled during a power outage.On a fixed income, Carol Marbrey purchased the meal at the beginning of the month.“I was never warned that my electric would be turned off, and then I was told it would be on by 7:30 AM, then I was told it would be on by noon, and this is all online, and then I was told it would five at night.”Marbrey came home that night to a dark house; power wasn't restored until the next day.The outage happened earlier this week during the extreme wind conditions and Red Flag Warning countywide.San Diego Gas & Electric says some customers weren't warned because it was a fluid situation, with weather conditions changing by the hour. A spokesperson tells 10News after power is shut off, technicians must inspect hundreds of miles of lines before turning them back on.Marbrey says she called the company several times to understand the situation.“I was getting different answers as to why our electric was not going on," said Marbrey.An SDG&E spokesperson tells 10News they encountered an issue trying to re-energize Marbrey's circuit, by then it was getting dark, and they had to wait until the following day.Marbrey says she understands the necessity to keep the community safe but wishes she’d been better informed.She knows her situation could be a lot worse.“Our hearts really go out to those people that really suffered; we really respect the fire department, the electrical people that are on the ground, the maintenance people, everyone that's doing their best to keep us safe.”Marbrey estimates they lost 0 to 0 in spoiled food. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — A firefighter was injured Wednesday when a roof collapsed on him while battling a blaze at a North County strip mall.Crews responded to the strip mall at 945 W. Valley Parkway just before 3:20 p.m., according to Escondido Fire Department. One engine arrived to the end unit of the mall fully engulfed in flames and extending into a neighboring business, EFD said.It's not clear how the fire started. The fire appears to have originated in a shoe repair and garment cleaner business, according to Google Maps images. The business sits next door to a gun and ammo business.One firefighter was injured in the blaze when part of a roof collapsed, according to EFD. He was taken to Palomar Medical Center for treatment. EFD didn't reveal the extent of the firefighter's injuries.EFD added that one civilian had minor smoke inhalation and refused treatment at the scene. 899
