A new flight aboard a commercial airliner is all about the journey for those missing the joys of travel.Qantas Airlines recently announced a seven-hour scenic flight, and it sold out in about ten minutes. At least 130 people bought tickets to board a plane and fly around Australia for several hours before landing back at the same airport."For those who are missing the excitement of travel or are keen to wave to friends and family interstate," Qantas stated in their flight information.It’s not just any flight, it’s aboard a B787 Dreamliner aircraft offering low level flybys of unique sight-seeing locations around Australia. Flyover locations include the Great Barrier Reef, Byron Bay, Sydney Harbor, Uluru and Kata Tjuta.The Dreamliner boasts large passenger windows for sightseeing, and it's usually used for long-haul international flights. Researchers are taking the time to listen, to make sure that tranquility is never destroyed.When we think of our national parks, we think of birds chirping and water running. Not traffic, honking, planes and helicopters.“It's tough,” Dr. Job said. “It's cold it's rainy sometimes I sit in the middle of thunderstorms hoping for the best sometimes I'm surrounded by animals that are big.”He’s battling the elements in Yellowstone National Park for a purpose; his purpose is to quiet the national parks.“It's an issue,” Dr. Job said. “Over the last decade visitation to the national parks has skyrocketed.”Hundreds of millions of people visit national parks every year, and with people comes noise. Dr. Job manages the Listening Lab, which is part of the Sound and Light Ecology Team at Colorado State University.  The group of students he leads found that noise doubled background sound levels in 63 percent of U.S. parks and protected areas.That’s why Dr. Job’s team spend days in national parks across the country recording their natural sounds. Back at the Listening lab, Elena Gratton is listening through recordings from Yellowstone National Park.“I'll probably go back to these spots and pull out those sounds,” Gratton said.One of the highlights? Wolves howling without any cars or people.She’ll put together the best parts so people who aren’t able to visit a national park can still listen and be transported.“You can see a picture of this place and that's great but it's on a screen,” Gratton said. “But the moment you put these headphones on you can shut your eyes and you can be there.”Jared Lamb is listening for a different purpose. He categorizes the sounds he hears and that information goes to the national parks. They then use it to determine how to better manage noise pollution.“When I first came it was, it didn't really, it didn't really feel like I was doing much,” Lamb said. “It just felt like a lot of numbers. But now after being here for a while I kind of see the implications and how important it is.”Parks then can do anything from unplugging a generator to limiting helicopter tours. INDIANAPOLIS -- Former Subway pitchman and convicted child predator Jared Fogle is continuing his quest to be released from prison early – most recently by asking a federal judge allow him to withdraw his guilty plea.Fogle pleaded guilty in 2015 to federal charges of conspiracy to distribute/receive child pornography and of traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor. He also agreed, as part of his plea, to pay 0,000 each to fourteen unnamed juvenile victims as restitution.Judge Tanya Walton-Pratt sentenced Fogle to serve more than 15 years in prison on the charges. Fogle has been serving that sentence at the federal penitentiary in Englewood, Colorado.Since his sentencing, however, Fogle has filed dozens of motions seeking to have his sentence either reduced or thrown out altogether.Last month, Fogle, who is now representing himself in the case, argued that Pratt “has bias” against him because she was the mother of two teenage daughters at the time of his sentencing. That claim was easily disproven, though: Pratt has only one daughter, and said daughter was 24 at the time Fogle pleaded guilty.Fogle’s most consistent claim – which he has repeated in multiple filings and is now pursuing in two separate cases (Fogle v. Walton-Pratt et al and Fogle v. USA) – is that he was wrongfully allowed to plead guilty to a conspiracy charge in the case. Fogle contends that no such charge exists under federal law.Fogle’s claim appears to stem from a reading of the statute under which he was sentenced – 18 U.S. Code § 2252(a)(2) – that overlooks or ignores a latter passage that states, “Whoever violates, or attempts or conspires to violate, paragraph (1), (2), or (3) of subsection (a) shall be fined under this title and imprisoned not less than 5 years and not more than 20 years…”Fogle, as noted in the plea agreement he signed, is accused of conspiring to violate paragraph (2) of subsection (a).In a filing to the court on March 5, Fogle excerpts section (a) of the statute, while omitting section (b) entirely.In another filing under his “conspiracy” argument, Fogle included portions of letters between former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover and former Republican U.S. Rep. Karl M. Le Compte dated 1946 – along with a portion of the Communist Control Act of 1954.Fogle also included portions of a transcript from the 2016 United States v. Frank Edwin Pate case in which he appears to have underlined sections containing language about “aiding and abetting.” Pate – who is incarcerated at the same prison as Fogle on a 2015 conviction for wire and mail fraud – was ultimately unsuccessful in that case.Although Fogle asks the court to “take judicial notice” of the facts presented in his filing, he does not make clear what, if anything, he believes the information presented within has to do with his case – nor is it immediately apparent.A previous attempt by Fogle to appeal his sentence in the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago was rejected by the court, which dismissed Fogle’s arguments in June 2016 as “unpersuasive.”In addition to Judge Pratt, Fogle’s request on Monday for immediate release and a hearing on the constitutionality of the charges he pleaded guilty to was also addressed to the warden of the Englewood Federal Correctional Institute and to President Donald Trump. INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — Police have arrested an Indianapolis man on a charge of murder in connection with the death of his friend on the Near Eastside earlier this month.Dewayne Sims, 32, was taken into custody Thursday night on a warrant for charges of murder and being a felon carrying a handgun in connection with the death of 36-year-old Earl Whitney.Whitney was found shot and killed inside a home in the 500 block of North Tacoma Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. on March 8.According to a probable cause affidavit filed Monday, a witness told police that Whitney had brought home his longtime friend, Sims. Both appeared to be possibly intoxicated, according to the witness.At one point in the evening, Whitney reportedly attempted to get Sims to leave. Sims, the witness said, had dozed off. When Whitney tried to rouse him, Sims reportedly said, “Who is you?”Whitney reportedly responded, “It’s me, cuz” – at which point Sims allegedly shot him. According to the witness, Sims shot Whitney once, paused, then shot him two more times. Sims then allegedly fled the residence.An autopsy of Whitney determined he died of a gunshot wound to the torso.According to the affidavit, Sims was on GPS monitoring through Marion County Community Corrections at the time the shooting took place. The device “reported insufficient,” though, meaning that it “did not have a clear view of satellites to report a valid location.”As of Friday evening, Sims was being held without bond at the Marion County Jail. INDIANAPOLIS -- The two men accused of shooting and killing a 1-year-old were at home playing video games at the time, the mother of one of the suspects said Wednesday morning.Darrin Banks, 27, and Brian Palmer, 29, have been charged with shooting and killing 1-year-old Malaysia Robson on March 30. "I want the detectives, I want whoever, to pull up Microsoft and see where they have logged in," Renee Sloan, Palmer's mother,  said. "You have dinged these men as murderers. You have put a tag on them as murderers, and they're not murderers."Robson was killed when gunfire struck her home on the 3500 block of Wittfield Avenue. Police have said it began as a dispute on social media. Someone then drove to the home and opened fire at around 2 a.m. Banks and Palmer face preliminary charges of murder and aggravated assault. "The whole community is talking about Darrin Banks and Brian Palmer," Sloan said. "Those are their names. They're not murderers. They're human beings and they have names. They did not do this. That is not in their demeanor. That is not how they work. That is not what they do. I want to have a voice for them. Everyone else has a voice but those two. I want people to know what type of people they are."The weekend after Robson was killed, the 1-year-old's grandmother helped organize a call for unity in the community and a march to reduce gun violence.For Robson's grandmother, it was a way to remember her grandchild and push for change so no family ever has to go through the same loss."For anyone with kids - go home and love your kids like never before," she said. Malaysia Robson is the youngest victim of a fatal shooting in Indianapolis since 2013.
