Ghaly did not say when the state would offer guidelines for college sports at outdoor venues.Because San Diego County is in the state's red tier under the COVID-19 reopening plan, major theme parks within the county cannot open under the state guidelines.SeaWorld San Diego, however, is currently operating under the state's guidance for zoos.Kurt Stocks, president of Legoland California Resort, issued this statement regarding the guidelines:“The guidance issued today by the state is arbitrary and unacceptable to the industry. Not allowing theme parks to open until Tier 4 will destroy the industry in California and the economic impact to industries that rely heavily on theme parks will be catastrophic. The administration’s actions to this point have cost tens of thousands of jobs across the industry, and today’s announcement will all but confirm that thousands more will be lost. LEGOLAND? California Resort has developed a comprehensive and robust reopening plan, taking every precaution to meet and exceed guidelines given to other businesses and industries since voluntarily closing seven months ago. All seven other LEGOLAND Parks around the world have reopened safely with millions of guests and twenty thousand employees going through the gates without any COVID-19 incidents. The guidance from the Governor is grossly inconsistent with the guidelines given to other industries and lacks any scientific basis that can be supported by the CDPH.”In Orange and Los Angeles counties, Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood will have to wait longer to reopen because of their tier status. (KGTV) — Southbound lanes of Interstate 405 in Westchester were shut down on a busy Friday afternoon following a police pursuit.Six lanes of traffic built up for miles behind the closure just after Braddock Dr., after a police pursuit ended with seven home invasion suspects taken into custody, according to KABC.Los Angeles Police stopped a white SUV on I-405, forcing each suspect to exit and lay down on the freeway before they were arrested, helicopter footage from the scene showed.Traffic was opened back up just before 3:45 p.m. Even after lanes were reopened, heavy Friday traffic blanketed the southbound side of the freeway.Footage of the standstill below: 675

(KGTV) — U.S. Navy veteran Michael White has been freed by Iran and left the country on Swiss government aircraft.White was jailed in Iran in 2018 while visiting a woman he had met online and fallen in love with, the Associated Press reported. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of insulting Iran's supreme leader and posting private information online.Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued a statement, reading in part that White would be reunited with his family."He is now on his way back to the United States, where we look forward to reuniting him with his family. I commend U.S. Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook for negotiating Mr. White’s release with the Iranians. (KGTV)- UC San Diego Health has had a goal to increase testing since the start of this pandemic, according to Dr. David Pride, the Associate Director of Microbiology.Now, UCSD Health has started using a new testing strategy; pool testing.“We’ve really been thinking about what is it that we can do to sort of extend testing in the San Diego region,” said Pride. “Pooling is absolutely a strategy, for example, that employers can use on their employees that universities can use, for example, on their students.”As the nation faces another COVID-19 testing supply shortage, Pride said this could be one solution to conserving the current supply.“Pool testing works by taking a group of individuals and placing all of their specimens together,” he said.Instead of using one test per person, samples from several people are collected and tested together.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends pool testing to be used only when the positive rate is low enough to justify pooling.“If that pool tests negative, then you can call each individual that was in that pool negative,” said Pride.If the pool tests positive, then each person is retested individually.“We test a lot of different patient populations, so we know what the prevalence of disease is in those patient populations, and we’ve chosen to use those with the lowest prevalence of disease for our pool testing,” Pride explained.He said they are currently using a five to one strategy, meaning five people per one test.“We’ve done probably somewhere around 500 to 600 so far. The majority of the batches have been negative, we’ve had less than 10 percent of the pools test positive,” Pride said, which is what his team expected.Pride said he heard positive feedback about pool testing from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).“Just a few weeks ago, we submitted our emergency use authorization to the FDA, and we think we’re probably getting fairly close to that getting approved,” he said.Soon, pride expects to start doing more pool testing, while also speeding up the process.“Right now, we’re really working on it in a very manual fashion,” he said. “That takes a lot of time to do, so we’re in the process of automating it by bringing in machinery to do that work that people are doing right now.” 2287

(KGTV) — Tourists tossing coins into Walt Disney World's fountains this year went toward fulfilling the wishes of hundreds of homeless individuals in Florida.The theme park donated ,000 in wishing well coins found in the park's fountains to the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida. The coins went toward making the coalition's meal for the coalition's nearly 650 residents.The group provides housing, emergency services, and diversion for local homeless men, women, and children in Central Florida."Every year, thousands of guests toss coins into fountains at our Resort and make a wish, and this year the funds collected from those fountains are being given to the Coalition to help make their annual Thanksgiving meal service possible," according to Tajiana Ancora-Brown, director of external affairs at Walt Disney World Resort.According to the Associated Press, the feast required seven kitchens, 250 pounds of turkey, 60 gallons of gravy and cranberry compote, 300 pounds of cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes and green beans, 800 dinner rolls, and 72 apple and pumpkin pies.Walt Disney World also donated hundreds of to-go containers for the meal. 1175
