MOAB, Utah — After a suddenly world-famous "monolith" of unknown origin was removed by an unknown person or group late Friday night, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) said there was a sharp increase in visitors to the area — many of whom failed to follow fundamental rules of recreating on public land.The installation itself, the BLM pointed out, was illegal — although the agency added that for some, it was "a welcome distraction from the 2020 news cycle."The BLM added that it did not remove the monolith or call for its removal and was in the midst of investigating where it came from when it vanished.The agency was concerned that the area was not "developed for heavy visitation," yet throngs of people showed up, mostly during Thanksgiving week.The agency said that many visitors parked their vehicles on vegetation and drove off of designated roads and trails, both of which are illegal. MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee family is devastated by the sudden loss of a young man. 21-year-old Nasir Matthews collapsed and died Tuesday while playing pick-up basketball. Terrell Matthews was there as his cousin and best friend fell to the ground after a game."The second game ended, he went over to the fan, leaned over for a second and he just went out," Matthews said. "Everything started happening so fast."Matthews said at first, everyone thought he was joking around. "After about 30 seconds they all started to see his eyes were just a blank stare," Matthews said.Matthews called 911 as others tried to revive him with a defibrillator at the school. Despite their efforts, Matthews was pronounced dead a short time later."At this point, we don't know why he fell out," said Matthews' aunt Camille Rose. "He didn't have any known medical condition other than an enlarged heart." Rose said this brings another round of grieving for Matthews' younger siblings who can't seem to catch a break. "The kids were all trying to deal with the loss of their mother, their grandmother and basically their father," Rose said.  Through the tears, Matthews looks back at the memories he shared with his cousin. "He was always happy, even through what he's been through," Matthews said.  The tragedy serves as a painful reminder to never take a loved one for granted, no matter their age. Matthews' family is still waiting on autopsy results to find out exactly why he died.  1522

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are looking for the driver of a BMW that crashed into a church fence in National City while attempting to escape a separate hit-and-run crash.According to National City police, it happened around 12:15 a.m. on Palm Avenue, leaving behind a trail of destruction in front of the church.Police say it all started when the BMW driver rear-ended a white Camaro at the intersection of Division Street and Palm Avenue. Moments later, the driver hit the gas trying to speed away from the crash but then hit another car, lost control, and crashed into a church fence.The BMW caught fire, but witnesses helped put it out before firefighters arrived.Witnesses say they saw a man and possibly one passenger running from the scene.No one was hurt.Police did find a shoe left behind at the scene and hope it will help lead to the suspect driver. 878

Millions of small businesses that received Paycheck Protection Program loans have been waiting for answers on how and when their loans would be forgiven. Now, the Small Business Administration has announced a plan that would forgive almost 70% of all the loans it gave out.“The new guidance that has come out from treasury department and the SBA aim to ease the process for applying for forgiveness of loans under ,000,” said Molly Day with the National Small Business Association.The new guidance forgives PPP loans that were ,000 or less, but also comes with a new rule. The rule allows businesses with no employees or businesses where the owner is the only employee, can now have most or all of their loan forgiven.Initially, most of the forgivable portion of a PPP loan was that which was used toward paying employees. The new rule also relaxes the scrutiny requirements on lenders to review documentation from small businesses proving how the money was spent.“A lot of small businesses don’t have employees, or they have one employee and that is themselves, adjusting that really makes it a lot more workable for the sole proprietors that are small businesses [and] are doing great work and deserve some assistance as well,” said Day.The forgiveness process laid out by the Small Business Administration does not have the usual red tape that comes with most government forgiveness processes. Business owners who received loans of ,000 or less have to fill out a one-page document, just released by the SBA, and have their lender process it.“I do think making the forgiveness process easier and more streamlined could help many small businesses,” added Day.With the loan debt hanging over their heads, many small businesses have been reluctant to take on additional debt or put more of their saving into their businesses. Relieving them of the loan burden could now allow them to do so and may result in saving some businesses that were on the brink.However, the SBA points out there’s no guarantee and is still pushing for continued support from Congress in the next stimulus bill.
