EL CAJON (KGTV and wire reports) - El Cajon police are investigating the shooting death of a man that resulted following an argument along a busy street Thursday.Police said gunfire erupted in the 1400 block of East Main Street in El Cajon shortly before 9:30 a.m., about a mile west of Granite Hills High School.Witnesses told 10News that two men were arguing on the sidewalk when one man took out a gun and shot the victim. According to police, an initial investigation indicates that an off-duty security guard tried to stop either a vehicle burglary or a carjacking. At some point, the vehicle's owner got involved, shooting and killing the suspect, police say. The shooter stayed on scene and cooperated before being arrested. (KGTV) — East County authorities are searching for a reported person trying to lure students at a nearby elementary school.El Cajon Police said officials at Flying Hills Elementary requested extra patrols Thursday over concerns of someone trying to lure students. Police said a 9-year-old boy was in an alley near the 1300 block of North Cuyamaca St. when a man approached in a vehicle. The man waved to the boy and said "get in the car." The vehicle was described as a red sedan, while the suspect was described as a white man in his 20s, with a mustache, red shirt, and black baseball hat.Police said they are aware of two other separate incidents as well. The first was on Tuesday in the 100 block of South Mollison Ave. A 12-year-old girl was approached by a man in a vehicle as she was walking to school. The man asked her a question and made a sexual comment before driving away, police said.The man was described as a white man, with balding dark hair, "scruffy" unshaven face, and possibly wearing a gray shirt and gray pants.The second incident occurred that same day just after 3:15 p.m. on Swallow Dr. A 13-year-old girl was walking home east of Finsh St. when man on foot approached her and said "come with me, I'm safe." He was described as a white man in his 40s, with a gray beard, short dark hair, and last seen wearing tan shorts, a dark shirt, black baseball hat, and black backpack.Police are investigating all three incidents, but said they do not believe they are related. Police have increased patrols in the area and at nearby schools.School staff from Lakeside Middle School also reported a suspicious incident as well just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. EL CAJON (KGTV) -- Crews are working to clear the scene of a semi truck fire that shut down a portion of Interstate 8 early Sunday morning.The semi truck caught on fire about 5 a.m. along westbound I-8 between 2nd Street and Mollison Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol.Responding fire crews said that 40 ft trailer was completely engulfed in flames. The fire blocked the far right lane for a couple of hours.A sig alert was issued about 7:45 am for the 2nd Street on ramp to westbound I-8.Crews remain on the scene working to clear the area of debris.The Sig-alert remained in effect as of 10:45 a.m., and motorists are asked to proceed through the area with caution or use alternate routes.  717

El Cajon Police continue to search for a wanted suspect while an officer recovers from being dragged down a road by a car. The suspect has been identified as 41-year-old David Pangilinan of Guam. He’s a school mate of mine back in elementary and middle school,” said Troy Torres. “Mr. Pangilinan’s family is very well known, a very nice family that has built up businesses a lot over the years, has contributed a lot to the community so his name does stand out,” he said, saying most people on the small island have heard of the family so this news has sparked attention across the island.A press release from El Cajon police said Pangilinan is the suspect in a case that started when an officer stopped to check on an SUV parked illegally and blocking traffic on Washington Avenue in El Cajon. He found a sleeping man and woman inside the car that was later determined to be a rental.The male driver of the car first tried to give false identification then started to put it into gear, so the officer tried to stop him. The officer got trapped in the car and was dragged down the road, then hit by another car. The SUV drove away and was deserted nearby, with the man and woman nowhere to be found. They are still on the loose and El Cajon police are asking for the public to report any information on their whereabouts.The officer is in critical condition as of Monday.A police officer in Guam said they’re on high alert and would know if he tried to return to the island because everyone who lands at the airport in Guam is required to go to a mandatory quarantine facility for six days. Dozens of goats invaded a suburb of Boise, Idaho, on Friday after walking off the job.The goats are workers for a rent-a-goat business called -- what else -- We Rent Goats that hires the herd out as an eco-friendly way to clear weeds.The goats were munching at an Ada County Highway District retention pond when they broke through a fence and escaped, briefly overtaking a street in the West Valley area of Boise around 7 a.m., CNN affiliate KBOI reported.Their arrival created a social media sensation, with goat-themed puns invading Twitter. The Columbus Dispatch, for instance, tweeted, "This looks like a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad situation." #Boise was still trending as of Friday afternoon.Boise resident Kyle Bryant told CNN he went to see the goats after his granddaughter told him what was happening."It was was the best thing I have seen since we moved to Boise three years ago," Bryant said.
