Garth Brooks has decided it’s someone else’s turn to win the Entertainer of the Year award from the Country Music Association Awards. The announcement came during a Facebook Live on Brooks’ page during a remote press conference.Brooks has won the award seven times."It's time for somebody else to hold the award and know what entertainer of the year feels like," he said.He said after last year’s CMA ceremony, there was one tweet that really stuck with him."It said, 'Why doesn't he step down and have entertainer of the year be for the next generation’. I 100 percent agreed," Brooks said.Brooks talked to the association about creating some sort of entertainer of the year emeritus. However, the Country Music Association said they were unable to control who is nominated for which category. “It’s not our call, we can’t pull you out of an award” they reportedly told Brooks.“We are going to do it ourselves. We are going to pull out from the entertainer of the year,” Brooks announced.Brooks said he is not withdrawing from other categories or award shows, "I'm very competitive, the awards mean the world to me" Brooks said. "With Entertainer, we've been lucky enough to walk home with that several times, and it's someone else's time."The nominations are expected to be announced in the next few weeks. 1314

GREENCASTLE, Indiana — Protesters at DePauw University in Indiana interrupted a press conference meant to discuss recent racist writings on and near campus, one day after students demonstrated at an on-campus event led by actress Jenna Fischer. After five incidents of racial slurs were written across campus in the last two weeks, protesters interrupted actress Jenna Fischer's talk Tuesday night. On Wednesday, university officials held a press conference to discuss the incidents and Tuesday's protest. About 10 minutes into the press conference Wednesday, DePauw President Mark McCoy learned about protesters outside the doors, wanting inside. McCoy and the other officials allowed the protesters inside, where they chanted, "Meet our demands. We are not safe." For about 20 more minutes, McCoy and the group discussed the incidents, and what the university is doing to stop future incidents from happening. "We are all together addressing every issue that has happened on this campus," McCoy said. "We are committed to addressing these issues. DePauw has made so many efforts to address this and has still fallen short."McCoy eventually became visibly frustrated by the interruptions from the crowd.Fischer was on DePauw's campus to promote her book, "The Actor's Life: A Survival Guide."Watch the full press conference, protest and discussion in the video below. GLENDORA, Calif. (CNS) - A chase suspect who allegedly stole drills led authorities on an over two-hour pursuit Tuesday afternoon from Glendora to downtown Los Angeles, at one point stopping at a gas station to fill up his tank. The chase started about 4:10 p.m. after the suspect allegedly stole drills from The Home Depot store located at 1305 S. Lone Hill Ave., according to Lt. James De Mond of the Glendale Police Department.By 5:10 p.m., the suspect was in the unincorporated Avocado Heights area near Industry, where he pulled into a gas station near Valley Boulevard and Santa Mariana Avenue. It appeared that one person ran from the vehicle, and the driver stood outside the vehicle for a couple of minutes before getting back inside and driving westbound on Valley Boulevard.Shortly after, the suspect pulled into another gas station near Valley Boulevard and Peck Road, and ran inside the store to apparently pay for gasoline. He pumped gas briefly then got back onto Valley Boulevard. He drove on multiple freeways throughout the pursuit, including the Long Beach (710), San Bernardino (10), Pomona (60) and Santa Ana (101) freeways, where he exited at Fourth Street and drove into downtown Los Angeles. It was not immediately clear what happened to the suspect after he entered downtown Los Angeles about 6:20 p.m. 1331

Hospital nurses near Philadelphia went on strike on Tuesday and Wednesday, airing a grievance over working conditions amid the coronavirus pandemic. On Wednesday, the nurses’ union said they were told they will now be locked out of their jobs through the end of the week. The 800 nurses are employed at the suburban St. Mary’s Medical Center. One of the main sticking points is minimum staffing levels, which is the proportion of patients to nurses in a hospital.“We tell Trinity we need more nurses, in large part because, as Trinity has acknowledged, we’re 15 years behind in wages, and they tell us they can’t afford to pay us a competitive wage,” says Jim Gentile, R.N., a surgical services nurse who has been at St. Mary for more than 35 years. “If they can’t find the money to recruit and retain more nurses, did they magically find several million dollars in the back of a drawer to pay the agency nurses?”Hospitals in the Philadelphia area previously told the Philadelphia Inquirer that they would hire replacement nurses to work if the union goes on strike."We respect the union members’ right to strike, and we remain committed to negotiating in good faith to reach agreement on a fair, consistent and sustainable initial contract for St. Mary nurses. We look forward to the day productive negotiations can resume," said a statement from Trinity Health. 1369

FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers say Hall of Fame manager Tom Lasorda has been hospitalized in Southern California. The Dodgers said Sunday that their 93-year-old former manager was in intensive care and resting comfortably at a hospital in Orange County. Lasorda lives in Fullerton. He attended the team’s Game 6 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Oct. 27 in Texas that clinched the Dodgers’ first World Series title since 1988. Lasorda managed the Dodgers from 1976-96, guiding them to World Series championships in 1981 and '88, as well as four National League pennants and eight division titles. 623
