Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez is done for the season, following complications from a condition he suffered from the coronavirus. He was diagnosed in early July with the coronavirus. He was set to return to the team by mid-month, however a health screening discovered a heart condition that will sideline Rodriguez for the 2020 season. Rodriguez is 27 years old.The condition is called myocarditis, when the heart becomes inflamed. Inflammation of the heart muscle was recently identified in two studies looking at lingering health effects in coronavirus survivors.Rodriguez did not experience chest pain or any symptoms, according to multiple media outlets. The condition was revealed during an MRI to check his heart following COVID-19.He said the experience was eye opening, but that having a mother who is a nurse has helped put his mind at ease.“The heart is the most important part of your body, so when you hear that — the first time that I heard it — I was kind of scared,” Rodriguez told Mass Live on July 26. “Now that I know what it is, it’s still scary, but now I know exactly what it is. Just talk to my mom, talk to my wife, they know what I have and everything. Now we just gotta take the rest. That’s hard, but you gotta take a rest.''According to the Mayo Clinic, “Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscle (myocardium). Myocarditis can affect your heart muscle and your heart’s electrical system, reducing your heart’s ability to pump and causing rapid or abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias).”Rodriguez’s doctors told him that 10-20% of people who have had COVID-19 also have been diagnosed with myocarditis, according to the Associated Press.Rodriguez previously said that his bout with the coronavirus had left him feeling “100 years old” and that it took him about 10 days before he was able to do any light throwing. He said he’s currently not experiencing any COVID-19-related symptoms. 1927

RADCLIFF, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky couple who refused to sign a self-isolation order when one tested positive for the coronavirus said they were placed under house arrest.Elizabeth Linscott of Radcliff told news outlets she was tested July 11 for COVID-19 because she wanted to visit her grandparents and received a positive result the next day. Linscott said the health department emailed her a form to sign that said she would check in daily, self isolate and let officials know if she has to be treated at the hospital. The form said the isolation order is to “prevent the introduction, transmission and spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus in this state.”Linscott said she declined to sign because of one sentence: “I will not travel by any public, commercial or health care conveyance such as ambulance, bus, taxi, airplane, train or boat without the prior approval of the Department of Public Health.”“I could not comply to having to call the public health department prior if I had an emergency or I had to go pick something up for my child or myself as a necessity and could not wait,” Linscott said. When she declined to sign the form she said she was told the case would be escalated and on July 16, Linscott said she and her husband were placed under house arrest with ankle monitors.Hardin County Sheriff John Ward said his office was on hand to execute court documents from a Hardin County Circuit Court judge. It was the first time his office executed such an order, he said.Lincoln Trail District Health Department spokeswoman Terrie Burgan declined to comment on the matter to protect the privacy of the family. 1630

Regardless of the sport, the Arizona-Arizona State rivalry has had plenty of odd moments. But this one? We're pretty sure it's a first. In the second half of Thursday night's big basketball game between the No. 17 Arizona Wildcats and No. 25 Arizona State Sun Devils, a UA cheerleader was ejected by an official while ASU freshman Remy Martin was shooting free throws.ESPN's Molly McGrath, who was standing next to the cheerleader during the ejection, said the man was "heckling and saying some inappropriate things," and was thus asked to leave. As fate would have it, UA trailed ASU 50-47 when the cheerleader was ejected, but outscored ASU 30-20 the rest of the way to go on to defeat the Devils 77-70 in front of a sold-out crowd in Tempe. 753

President Donald Trump used the United Nations as a foil on the campaign trail in 2016, slamming it for its "utter weakness and incompetence" and arguing that it is "not a friend of freedom."His history with the international body on Manhattan's East Side doesn't start there -- as a real estate creature of New York, Trump has long interacted with the UN.On his first day attending the UN's yearly meeting, Trump tried to play nice. But it's clear that his skepticism for the organization remains. 506

President Donald Trump visited California on Monday to receive an update on the dozens of wildfires that are currently raging across the Western United States.During a visit to McClellan Park, California on Monday, Trump received a briefing from local officials on the status of the fires that have killed 33 people in three states dating back to mid-August.The president then spoke at a ceremony recognizing the California National Guard, which has hundreds of members helping to battle the fires. At the event, he also awarded members with honors.Watch the event below:Trump has remained largely silent on the fires in the past few weeks. However, in recent days, he's taken to thanking firefighters in the region for their work in battling the flames.Trump addressed the fires during a Saturday campaign rally in Reno, Nevada — a city under a dense smoke advisory due to the nearby blazes."My administration is closely coordinating with state and local leaders, and we want to thank the more than 200,000 people that are working on it and 28,000 firefighters and first responders who courageously and bravely are fighting out there," Trump said.He added that California, Oregon and Washington had "never had anything like this," and stressed the need for better "forest management." 1293
