(KGTV) - Some COVID-inspired creativity from local youth is about to take center stage.Leo Nava, 12, has been drawing since he was six."I love drawing, and it calms me down," said Nava.It's a calm he appreciates amid the unknowns of the pandemic."Sometimes it helps me tell what I'm feeling ... It helps me ignore my surroundings about what's going on in the world, so I don't get as frustrated or stressed," said Nava. He and dozens others have been tapping their pandemic-inspired creativity through online classes at the nonprofit, A Reason To Survive, a creative development program for under-served youth in the South Bay. The voices of the youth are spoken through poignant photographs and original songs, some speaking the isolation so many are feeling. Some youth, like Nava, are drawn to drawings. Themes include superhero medical workers, toilet paper hoarding, beaches and that claustrophobic quarantine feeling.One piece one by Nava shows a red-eyed Nava typing at a computer all day. In another example, Nava sketched a comic strip panel showing an apocalypse."The asteroid hitting the earth represents quarantine. People are scared. Don't know where it came from or what it's doing," said Nava.Those feelings of fear, say the student's teachers, are mixed with anxiety, isolation, hope, joy and heroism — all part of their pandemic experience.The creativity will shine in a virtual exhibition Saturday."The artwork says, 'Hear me. Listen to me. See me.' Their, voice, viewpoints and identity are the things that leap off the page and the music ... MILWAUKEE -- Seven people were shot at the Serenity Funeral Home in Milwaukee Wednesday afternoon, police say. Acting Police Chief Michael Brunson said all seven victims are in stable condition and are expected to survive. The victims are a 48-year-old woman, a 26-year-old woman, a 24-year-old woman, a 29-year-old man, a 26-year-old man, a 24-year-old man and a 20-year-old man.There's no word yet on what caused the shooting, and the exact circumstances that led up to it are still under investigation. Brunson said his officers continue to search for an unknown suspect."Our prayers are with the victims and their family members during this terrible time," Brunson said."This is an untenable situation. NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A National City family was shocked Monday when they showed up at their business and noticed someone broke-in and vandalized their business. Dulce Tablas' parents own Diva's Fashion 2 in National City, a store in which they sell formal clothing like ball gowns and tuxedos. The family also owns a banquet hall and a second clothing store. The family showed up to find their storefront window broken, glass all over the ground and a designer quincea?era dress, worth over 0, gone. The person who took the dress grabbed it from the mannequin. Tablas says it will cost the family over ,000 to fix the window. The family is wondering if they were targeted. Last week, during the Black Lives Matter protests, they decided to paint the phrase on their windows. After the break-in, Tablas said she noticed the phrase had an "X" through it. The break-in came on the same day the family decided to close down one of their locations, not able to survive during the COVID-19 pandemic. The business that was vandalized is the one staying open. The family also says they had insurance and surveillance cameras but they had cut the expense in April since they were closed due to the pandemic.
