KENOSHA — In his first time speaking publicly since his arrest, Kyle Rittenhouse told the Washington Post that he "would have died that night" if he hadn't brought a gun to a Kenosha protest where law enforcement officials say he shot and killed two men.Unrest broke out in Kenosha following the Aug. 23 police shooting of Jacob Blake. Police said Rittenhouse, 17, is charged with the homicides of two men during the night of Aug. 25. The Kenosha County District Attorney's Office says those charges were what Blake was wanted for at the time of the police shooting on Aug. 23.The shooting was captured on camera and received national attention. Kyle Brown is crediting his pitbull Petey with saving his and his family’s lives after a gunman barricaded himself inside him Romulus home on Friday.Michigan State Police said that the incident began as a botched carjacking a couple of blocks from Brown’s home.The suspect took off through the neighborhood, jumping Brown’s fence. “As soon as I made eye to eye contact with him, I could tell by the look in his eyes and by his intent, he knew what he was doing, and it was an opportunity,” Brown said.Petey charged after the suspect. “When the pit bull came out and encountered him he immediately pulled his gun out and shot him,” Brown said. Even with a bullet wound, Petey was still able to chase the suspect out of the yard.Police say they exchanged gunfire with the suspect as he jumped the fence, hitting the suspect twice. The suspect then jumped back into Brown’s yard and went inside his home.Brown’s son and his friend were inside, and Brown tried to get them all out safely. “When he got to the door he pulled for his gun, and I’m communicating with Tommy, ‘Cmon Cmon Tommy. Hurry up.’ Unfortunately, Tommy just froze up,”  Brown said.The suspect barricaded himself inside the home with Brown’s son’s 7-year-old friend, Tommy.Tommy was released unharmed hours later.The suspect gave himself up to MSP. Tommy, Brown and his son are physically OK.Petey had to be put down because his injuries were so severe. “Petey didn’t make it, but you can’t be upset with him. KILLEEN, Texas – It’s been nearly two months since a Fort Hood soldier went missing and now the reward for information about the 20-year-old’s disappearance has been doubled to ,000.Private First Class Vanessa Guillen was last seen on April 22 between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the parking lot of her Regimental Engineer Squadron Headquarters at the U.S. Army base in Killeen, Texas, according to a press release from the Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID).She hasn’t been seen or heard from since.The Army says Guillen’s car and room key, identification car, and wallet were later found in the armory room where she was working earlier in the day.Officials say Guillen was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and purple fitness-type pants. She’s described as being 5 feet 2 inches tall, about 126 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.Investigators say they have no credible information or report at this time that Guillen was sexually assaulted or that the case is in any way connected to the disappearance of Private Second Class Gregory Wedel-Morales, who was last seen on Aug. 19, 2019 while driving his car in Killeen. Both allegations have been circulated online.More than 150 people have been interviewed in the investigation and the Army says its working closely with multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, to help bring Guillen home.The Army and Fort Hood are still seeking the public’s help to solve the case. Judge Amy Coney Barrett's Supreme Court confirmation hearing was beset by technical issues on Wednesday afternoon, as the Senate Judiciary Committee was forced to take two recesses when microphones in the room went dead.The issues began at 2 p.m. ET, about five hours into day two of questioning. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Connecticut, was in the process of beginning his 20 minute period of questioning went microphones stopped working.The committee went into recess for about half an hour as Capitol maintenance workers attempted to fix the issue. Upon returning, Blumenthal was able to get through most of his questioning session before microphones in the room cut out again.The committee was forced to take another 15-minute recess to address the technical issue.It's currently unclear as to what caused the issue. 827
