(KGTV) - The man who tried to kidnap a 15-year-old girl in front of her Encinitas home was sentenced Monday to seven years in jail.Jeremiah Owens, 28, grabbed the girl and pinned her to the ground as she waxed her surfboard in front of her home on Neptune Ave in July 2017.Owens tried to drag the girl to a nearby pickup truck occupied by Christopher White, but the girl was able to break free and run home.White was arrested two days after the assault when a witness matched his pickup truck to the description of one which deputies wanted to find. (KGTV) — Two men were arrested after stealing a car and crashing into another vehicle Tuesday in the North County.The two men carjacked a driver at gunpoint just before 3 p.m. in the 900 block of Postal Way in Vista, according to San Diego Sheriff's Department. After yanking the driver out of his vehicle and taking off, the two men soon crashed into another vehicle, before fleeing.A detective who happened to be in the area heard the call over the radio and started searching for the suspect, SDSO said. When he spotted the suspects, he began to follow them and relay directions to an SDSO helicopter overhead.Deputies took over and a brief pursuit began. The two men crashed into a curb and fled the vehicle. Deputies caught both men after a foot chase.SDSO said a loaded gun and illegal drugs were discovered in the vehicle.SDSO said the two men, identified as Joseph Laxton and Ricardo Hernandez, were arrested on charges of carjacking, hit-and-run, a felon in possession of a firearm, drugs, violating parole, threat causing death or great bodily injury, and participating in a criminal street gang. 1128

Juan Garcia Castillo guilty.Castillo, who had worked at St. Patrick's Church in Carlsbad since 2011, faces six months in jail and registration as a sex offender when he is sentenced Jan. 18, said Deputy District Attorney Joshua Brisbane.The 33-year-old victim -- a former Navy attorney who left the military to join the priesthood -- testified that he had met Castillo the night before the incident, which happened about 1 a.m. on Feb. 4.According to court testimony, the victim went to the restroom to be sick, and was in a stall when Castillo grabbed his genitals from behind.The victim testified that he told Castillo to go away, but the defendant came back in the stall and massaged the victim's groin in a sexual way.Castillo, 35, testified that he followed the victim into the restroom because it looked like he was going to be sick.
