SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Traffic was blocked Wednesday near the San Diego Superior Court Central Courthouse due to a hazmat investigation. The San Diego Sheriff’s Department confirmed the substance was found in the building at 1100 Union St. about 5 p.m. A court employee said the substance was a white powder found on the 10th floor.Preliminary information from the scene indicates the situation was linked to a letter inside the courthouse, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. By 6:30 p.m., crews determined the powder was harmless. 537

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A splash of color brings life back to Bay Park Elementary. Over the weekend, parents and volunteers joined together to give the school a facelift. The beautification project now has kids excited to come to school. “They were just blown away,” says Emily Auer. “Their face just lit up. They actually touched the walls.”Bay Park Elementary is approaching it’s the 80th anniversary. The school’s beautification team brought together almost 80 volunteers. The project started Friday night until late Sunday afternoon. Volunteers painted the walls and wooden backpack holders. Parents tell 10News one family donated a bunch of small desks with chairs that now sit in the halls. Behr gave the paint for the project. “Such a wonderful group of kids, so positive,” says parent Erica Krystek. “We really wanted that positivity reflected in the hallways.”The Bay Park Elementary Beautification Team plans to do more upgrades in the future. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — U.S. Coast Guard officials Wednesday offloaded thousands of pounds of cocaine in San Diego after it was seized in international waters.The narcotics seizures occurred in four separate incidents off the coasts of Mexico, Central, and South America between July and early October.Alert (WMEC-630): Two cases seizing about 4,000 pounds of cocaine;Robert Ward (WPC-1130): One case seizing about 1,500 pounds of cocaine; andSeneca (WMEC-906): One case seizing about 1,400 pounds of cocaine.The narcotics have a street value of more than million, according to the Coast Guard."I am extremely proud of this crew for doing their part to keep these dangerous drugs off the streets," said Cmdr. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two people escaped uninjured after a sailboat crashed into an Ocean Beach jetty, before the vessel itself was crushed by high surf.The 25-foot long boat collided into the North Channel jetty in Ocean Beach with the two individuals on board, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokeswoman Monica Mu?oz. San Diego Lifeguards used a personal water craft to reach the vessel and safely pull the two individuals after they were forced to jump from the boat. The boat was attempting to leave the jetty area when a large wave forced them to pull a U-turn.
