EL CAJON (KGTV) -- A group firefighters battling a house fire in El Cajon rescued two of their own from under burning debris Tuesday morning.Heartland Fire & Rescue crews were called to a two-story structure fire in the 1300 block of Helix View Drive around 3 a.m. and discovered a home fully engulfed with flames reaching as high as 50-feet.As firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, a burning section of the home collapsed trapping two of them. Both were quickly pulled out from under the rubble.One of the firefighters was treated and transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries. The condition of the second firefighter is unknown at this time.The homeowner told 10News that all family members were able to evacuate the burning home safely. (KGTV) — El Cajon City Council voted Friday not to make any changes in how the city enforces the county's coronavirus public health orders.Thursday, Mayor Bill Wells called for the special meeting to discuss stopping El Cajon Police from enforcing public health measures around facial coverings and distancing.City Council leaders said the city would continue enforcing the rules as they have on a case-by-case basis, according to the mayor. (KGTV) — A gas leak in the East County forced several businesses to abruptly close Friday, as crews worked to stop the leak.The gas leak occurred North Marshall Ave. and Petree St. at about 12 p.m. when crews with Helix Water District struck a gas pipe while installing a communications line, according to El Cajon Fire Department.A representative with the water district said HWD personnel arrived at the scene after the rupture had occurred and are not responsible for the damage.Crews evacuated a nearby shopping center, where customers at the Black Bear Diner were given five minutes to leave the area. The leak also forced a nearby Rock Church and school to evacuate.For four hours, several blocks were closed to motorists and MTS trolley and bus service were impacted in the area.SDG&E has since stopped the leak by pinching off a section of the pipe in another area. Crews plan to take an additional two hours to repair the damged section of the gas line.No injuries were reported. 1017
