SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A non-profit in Logan Heights is asking for the neighborhood's help clean up a community space used by families and children. The Logan Heights Community Development Corporation owns the Gilliam Family Community Space. In March, they were forced to shut it down indefinitely because vandals were using the space overnight.  The area is covered in graffiti and littered with trash. The vandals were using the tree house overnight and damaging the fruits and vegetables in the community garden.  Now, the non-profit wants volunteers to help revamp the area. They plan on knocking the tree house down and eliminating the garden to deter the people coming in overnight. A large community cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, June 2 at 2835 Imperial Avenue at 9 a.m. The non-profit relies solely on donations. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man died following a shooting in downtown San Diego Thursday evening, police said.The shooting was reported just after 9:40 p.m. near the intersection of 5th Avenue and E Street in the Gaslamp Quarter, according to San Diego police.According to police, an altercation broke out between a man and his companion and a third man. Police said during the altercation, the third man produced a handgun and shot one of the men in the upper torso. The suspected shooter and the victim's companion both fled the scene.The victim was rushed to UC San Diego Medical Center for treatment, but he later died from his injuries. Police identified him as a 22-year-old Hispanic male.While the victim's companion was found a short distance away, police are still searching for the gunman. The suspected shooter was described as a Black male with braided hair, between 20-40 years of age, and wearing a bandana or rag over his face. He was last seen wearing dark clothing and running on eastbound E Street.Police are interviewing witnesses and viewing surveillance video footage from area businesses as part of the investigation. 1141

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego brewery is helping locals who find themselves in the kitchen more during California's stay at home order try their hands at bread making.Mission Brewery is offering small bags of dried yeast for free to community members in need."As a bread baker myself, I realized that yeast has become almost impossible to find on grocery shelves because of the COVID-19 crisis," says Mission Brewery owner Dan Selis. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A juvenile was arrested Wednesday for allegedly making a threat against a San Diego Unified School District high school.The juvenile was arrested at Serra High School for the alleged threat, according to SDUSD. The suspect told school police the comment was not meant to be taken seriously. While police deemed the threat non-credible, they determined the comment meant the definition of a criminal threat.The language of the threat and how it was issued was not immediately clear.RELATED: DA: Nine minors charged in recent threats to local schoolsClasses at Serra High were held on a normal scheduled Wednesday despite the report. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A meeting to sell an iPhone ended in a wild chase and getaway in an El Cerrito neighborhood.Surveillance cameras caught the crime along Dayton Street late in the afternoon last Wednesday."My neighbor came to knock on my door. He was agitated and upset," said Maurizio Rios. Rios saw his neighbor right after it happened, and relayed the details to 10news. In the video, his neighbor is seen meeting with a man near the sidewalk. It's the same man who responded to an OfferUp post to sell an iPhone. Not far away stands another man. The neighbor hands the iPhone over for the man to look at, and almost immediately, the man takes off. After he takes off, the other person who had been around the corner runs with him.From another camera angle, the two men are then seen running down the block, with the victim close behind. Moments later, the same men are racing toward a moving car."They jump right into the moving car," said Rios.The victim is still close behind, but he can only watch as the the car makes a right and drives off. The neighbor is breathless and distraught, but he did spot some clues.
