Many schools across the country have put brand new cleaning and disinfecting procedures in place to welcome students back during the coronavirus pandemic. With Election Day, some schools prepared to welcome a new group of people: voters."We are the third district in the state of Kentucky. We are 15 minutes outside of Cincinnati so we are the southern suburb of Cincinnati, so we have 25 schools in Northern Kentucky in this district which, for 7 of them, almost one-third are being used as polling places," said Barbara Brady with Boone County Schools.Boone County Schools prepped four high schools, two middle schools and one elementary school so voters could cast their ballots. A number of school districts nationwide will be doing the same, at a time when protecting students and the public from COVID-19 is a priority."Before, after and during. The spaces used are the gymnasiums so obviously it's a big open space. They’ll be cleaned and sanitized as they normally are even during school so it’ll be before, during and after because the kids will be back in school the next day," said Brady.Boone County Schools and the county government will split the cost of a custodian to disinfect the polling area. In Madison, Wisconsin, City Clerk Maribeth Witzel-Behl is providing each polling place, which includes schools, with a stipend to help with added cleaning costs. In Madison, poll workers will also help sanitize throughout the day."We did want to acknowledge that these facilities are stepping up and opening their doors to voters in the midst of a pandemic and will have some extra expenses because of that community commitment that they're making," said Witzel-Behl."There'll be hand sanitizer, cleaning wipes, anything that anyone wants to use that’s in there while they’re voting, as well. So, they’ll at least have something to use if they feel someone just touched this instrument or table that I touched, they’ll have the option to use hand sanitizer or some antibacterial wipes," said Brady.Brady says there was also a school resource officer on hand to ensure proper procedures were followed. 2120

LUTZ, Fla. — A South Carolina man was arrested in Florida after Hillsborough County deputies say he planned to commit a crime he planned for eight months.The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said on Sunday, August 16 at 2:43 a.m., the suspect, Phillip Thomas, 24, entered a home within the Promenade at Lake Park in Lutz.Detectives learned Thomas parked his car at Idle Wild Church earlier that night, walked to the home, cut a hole in the patio screen, and remained there for about three to four hours. He was watching and listening through the windows, officials said.After the homeowner went to bed, Thomas came in through the back sliding door which activated the home alarm. It prompted the homeowner to look out the window and spot Thomas.The homeowner and a guest left the home in a car and called 911.When deputies arrived, Thomas was still inside the home.According to public records, the home is owned by Daria Berenato. She is a WWE wrestler who goes by the name Sonya Deville. “I have spoken to her and I’m glad she’s safe and I’m thankful and grateful that the sheriff's office took care of the situation immediately. Celebrity status aside this is sickening. I am a product of a sexual assault and have zero-tolerance or respect for any human being that would violate a person's privacy and or personal space," said WWE Superstar Titus O'Neil.Deputies discovered he was carrying a knife, plastic zip ties, duct tape, mace, and other items.Through the investigation, detectives discovered Thomas lived in South Carolina and came to Lutz specifically targeting the homeowner."We know the suspect was completely obsessed with the victim and they had been trying to engage in a conversation for several years, but were unsuccessful, and then Sunday night is when they tried to confront the victim," said Natalia Verdina, a public information officer with HCSO.Thomas told deputies he was planning to take the homeowner hostage."Our deputies are unveiling the suspect's disturbing obsession with this homeowner who he had never met, but stalked on social media for years," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "It's frightening to think of all the ways this incident could have played out had the home alarm not gone off and alerted the homeowner of an intruder. Our deputies arrived within minutes and arrested this man who was clearly on a mission to inflict harm."Thomas was charged with aggravated stalking, armed burglary of a dwelling, attempted armed kidnapping, and criminal mischief.We spoke with cybersecurity expert Stu Sjouwerman. LOS ANGLES (AP) — Authorities say former “Glee” star Naya Rivera is missing and being searched for at a Southern California lake.The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department late Wednesday confirmed that 33-year-old Rivera is the person being searched for in the waters of Lake Piru, which is approximately 56 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.The search for Nivera was temporarily called when it got dark, but it resumed Thursday morning. 448

Madison Wilson, an elementary school student in California, is raising money to donate multicultural crayons and books to local schools.Wilson learned that Crayola will be releasing a 24-pack of multicultural crayons called 'Colors of the World' in July and asked her mom if she could raise the funds to donate these crayons to her school.Wilson said she wanted children of all colors of skin to be able to accurately draw themselves in school.She also wants to use the money she raises to purchase multicultural books from local book stores and donate them as well.Wilson's deadline to raise the money is June 30. She had raised ,790 of her ,000 goal as of Tuesday afternoon. MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida teacher is on paid administrative leave after being accused of drowning two raccoons during a science class, WFTV reports.A student at Forest High School provided WFTV with video of the incident, which appears to show buckets filled with water, and raccoons in cages being submerged into them.That student said the raccoons killed several chickens housed in a shed behind the school."They finally took the cage out of the water, and they trapped it into another smaller cage, where the top of the cage would go down into the water," the student said. "And that's how they killed the second one," the student told the TV station.Florida Fish and Wildlife are reportedly looking into the legality of the issue."While law enforcement tells us the teacher may not have done anything illegal, his actions before students are certainly questionable," the Marion County School District reportedly said in a statement. 950
