SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A driver was arrested after Border Patrol agents discovered nearly million in cash hidden in his SUV’s gas tank.On Aug. 5, at around 10:30 a.m., Border Patrol officials said agents spotted a suspicious Volkswagen Touareg on southbound Interstate 15 in Escondido and pulled the vehicle over.After a K-9 alerted agents to something in the SUV, agents questioned the 26-year-old driver. During a search of the vehicle, agents found 65 plastic-wrapped bundles of cash in the gas tank.According to officials, there was 7,460 in cash stuffed in the tank.The driver, a Mexican national, was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security “with pending criminal proceedings,” officials said.Agents seized the cash and SUV.In a news release, Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke said, “The U.S. Border Patrol works tirelessly to protect the Homeland from transnational criminal organizations - the same criminal enterprises that poison our communities with narcotics and smuggle human beings like cargo. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A gray whale spotted frolicking in shallow waters attracted dolphins and a crowd of swimmers and surfers in the ocean off Mission Beach Wednesday. Lifeguards got a call about the whale possible tangled in fishing line about noon, an official said. A lifeguard who swam toward the whale to investigate determined it was free.The gray whale was young, possibly a year and a half old, whale watcher and photographer Domenic Biagini told 10News. Gray whales are starting to migrate north from Mexico during the spring. There is a good chance San Diegans will see more mothers and juvenile whales closer to shore, Biagini says, because the shallow waters keep the whales safe from orcas. "It's some of the most exciting times for us as professional whale watchers to see these animals, but it's also when we see the most conflicts with these animals coming in with people," said Biagini.Sky10 was above the whale as a group of surfers and swimmers approached it near Mission Beach, coming close to the giant mammal.Biagini warns that can be extremely dangerous for humans and can also stress the animal."These gray whales, despite not being the largest of the great whales we see out here, they can still get 50 feet long and weigh up to 80,000 pounds, so you're talking very large animals. According to a witness, the injury happened five minutes into the second quarter at the 30-year line. The witness told 10News the wide receiver laid on the field for 20 minutes before an ambulance arrived to rush the student to the hospital. School officials and the victim's sister confirmed to 10News that the football player is expected to be okay. 493

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A City of San Diego employee says she was sexually harassed by her boss on the job and now the man accused of the harassment is asking the city to pay for his legal defense.The woman says her supervisor groped her and grabbed her arm hard enough to tear open a recent surgical wound, causing it to bleed. The parks and Rec Department employee alleges that her supervisor, Frank Cardenas, sexually harassed her, even touching her inappropriately at work.Josh Gruenberg is representing the city staffer and says she has put up with enough. "He pinned her legs against her desk in her cubicle he wrapped her up in his arms and pulled her close multiple times,” said Gruenberg.The victim says she rejected every overture Cardenas made. At one point, the victim says Cardenas told her "if she wanted to get the support to grow within the city she should only care what Cardenas thinks or wants.""He really tried to get her to put his trust in him and that it would be good for her career,” Gruenberg said.The lawsuit also claims that Cardenas gripped the victim’s arm so hard that he reopened a surgical incision, causing her to bleed at work."And all of this took place in the workspace. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two women were arrested and nine people were detained Friday morning following a break-in at a nearby liquor store, police said.Dispatchers received a call shortly before 3:30 a.m. from a person who reported seeing video of people breaking into the Valley Liquor store in the 1200 block of Hotel Circle, San Diego police Officer Scott Lockwood said.Officers responded to the scene and learned the suspects were possibly in a room at a nearby hotel, Lockwood said.They went to contact the suspects at the hotel room and ended up detaining 11 people for questioning.One male detained became unruly with officers and was placed into the back of an SDPD vehicle, where he continued to act out.Two women were eventually arrested on suspicion of burglary, but their names and ages were not available, Lockwood said. 835
