SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A driver was killed and several teens were injured Tuesday night in a high-speed solo vehicle crash along State Route 905 in south San Diego.The crash happened on the westbound lanes near the Beyer Boulevard off-ramp about 9:15 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.The driver lost control of the dark-colored Chrysler 300, struck the center divide, and was ejected from the car. The victim was declared dead at the scene. It was initially reported that the driver, a 21-year-old male, was a teenager. Firefighters worked to extricate two passengers trapped in the rear passenger seats, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.The injured victims, three males and two females ranging in age between 15- to 21-years-old, were transported to UCSD and Scripps Mercy for their injuries. Their conditions are unknown at this time.CHP officers are investigating if drugs, alcohol, or distracted driving contributed to the crash.Investigators are asking anyone that witnessed the crash to contact the California Highway Patrol.The Beyer Boulevard on-ramp to the westbound state Route 905 was shut down until at least midnight, according to the CHP. 1191

He says he's been watching his son, Jahmes, spend several months fighting for his federal tax return. "People need this money. People have worked for this money. People have earned this money," says 24 year-old Jahmes.The young man tells Team 10 that he filed online in February and received his state refund, but not his federal refund. It's now been more than 7 months. A return summary shows he's owed almost ,200 from the IRS.Jahmes says he's between jobs and burning through his savings. His father tries to help but says he's retired and on a fixed income, so his means are limited."It doesn't feel too good depending on your dad at 24-years-old," Jahmes tells Team 10. Jahmes says he has repeatedly called, emailed and written to the IRS. He adds he was once asked to appear in-person to verify identity, which he says he completed. However, he says his efforts didn't yield clear answers from the IRS.On the IRS website, he showed us what he says is his filing status. "Your tax return is still being processed," is what it reads. "If the circumstances were different, [the IRS] would be knocking on [our] door looking for their money," says Warren Peters. "The IRS is just understaffed and overworked," says tax attorney Ronson Shamoun, CEO of Downtown San Diego's RJS Law Firm. He says long delays are not uncommon. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 16-year-old was hospitalized Saturday night after being shot at a gas station in Skyline. Police say the shooting happened at an Arco station near South Meadow Brooke and Paradise Valley Road. According to police, the victim and his friends were walking through the parking lot when one of them was shot. Witnesses told police an argument broke out between the victim and three other teens when one of the three boys, who are all under the age of 18, shot the 16-year-old in the stomach before running away. The 16-year-old was taken to the hospital where he is expected to survive. 613

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A car was found fully engulfed in flames on state Route 52 early Thursday morning, but authorities were unable to locate the driver.At around 4:20 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers were called to a vehicle fire on westbound SR-52, just east of Santo Road, in the Tierrasanta area.As flames raged, CHP officers broke a side window to check if anyone was inside, but no one was found.Firefighters were able to knock down the blaze in about 5 minutes.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 528

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A day after deliberations began in the wrongful death civil case over a mysterious Coronado mansion death, a jury has reached a verdict.A jury Wednesday found Adam Shacknai responsible in the death of Rebecca Zahau at the Spreckles Mansion in 2011. Zahau's family will be awarded million in punitive damages.Jurors were asked two main questions: Did Adam Shacknai touch Rebecca Zahau (before she died) with the intent to harm her? Did that touching cause her death? Jurors determined "yes" in both instances.The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday that they are standing by their findings that Zahau committed suicide.
