Roughly six percent of the male population - and less than one percent of the female population - suffer from colorblindness. It isn’t a deficiency that is debilitating, but it can be frustrating. For 11-year-old Andreas Koerber, reds and greens are mixed up, blues and purples are difficult to differentiate. The world, as he sees it, is generally more drab. The North Olmsted, Ohio sixth-grader and his family didn’t know there was a fix, until recently. Now, his eyes are open to an entirely new world after the discovery of specialized glasses.“Everything is more colorful, it’s brighter, it’s not as dark,” Andreas said.He realized he was colorblind at age five. It’s one of the biggest differences between him and his twin brother Luke. Luke is the one who had the idea to surprise Andreas with the glasses after learning about them online.“He’s my brother and really, it doesn’t feel fair that I get to see all the colors and he doesn’t,” Luke said. “I didn’t really realize how bad it was and what he wasn’t seeing.”For mom Rita Koerber, watching Andreas see colors for the first time was eye-opening.“It was just this totally special, emotional moment,” Rita said. "Kind of like Christmas when you have little kids and you’re seeing that through their eyes and they’re so excited, it was like that."The glasses run upwards of 0 and are not covered by insurance. After trying them on at Eyetique in Eton Center, Rita immediately had them special-ordered.“It’s like, how do you put a price tag on that? His face was just smiling nonstop for two days,” she said. 1595

RICHMOND, Va. – A military veteran who died of a heart attack while onboard a Richmond city bus was robbed while unconscious. Several burobbed while unconsciouss riders jumped in to help the man while he went into cardiac arrest, but they ultimately got off the bus, with the exception of one.Police say 20-year-old Demontea Chappell stayed behind under the guise of giving aid but was seen on camera taking the man's wallet.A video reveals the heartbreaking details."Pop? What you name is Pop?" said a young man, as the older bus passenger struggled unconsciously and not breathing."Trying to find his wallet. Where the wallet at?" that young man continues.Chappell, according to police, was acting as if he was giving aid to the Air Force veteran, but the bus video showed he went inside the man’s wallet and then slid the cash into his own pocket.Sources told WTVR's Jon Burkett that the veteran always carried cash, but how much money he had that day was unknown.Police now have a warrant for Chappell's arrest. The veteran died on the bus near the corner of First and Federal last Thursday morning.Sources tell WTVR that after family members questioned why their loved one’s wallet was empty, officials with the Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) went to the recordings and alerted police. The investigation led police to Chappell, who is still on the run.GRTC is helping police in this investigation. If you know the whereabouts of Damontea Chappell, call the police. This story was originally published by Jon Burkett at WTVR. 1544

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California's nation-leading gas prices are set to climb even higher Monday, when the state gas tax increases 5.6 cents a gallon. It's the latest increase from a 2017 law designed to raise about billion a year for road and mass transit programs. It's among several changes taking effect at mid-year.RELATED: California will have the highest gas tax in the US starting July 1A 12 cent-per-gallon boost came that November, and voters last year rejected a Republican-led effort to repeal the law. But Southern California voters recalled one Democratic lawmaker who helped pass the measure. The money is split between state and local governments, with much of going to fix potholes and rebuild crumbling roads, bridges and public transportation.Republicans note that the tax is increasing even as Gov. Gavin Newsom and fellow Democrats complained about high gas prices. 898

SACRAMENTO, Calif. The only exception would be if the department believed it would pose a significant security risk. The bill would require the department to refer to inmates by their preferred gender pronoun.Bill author Sen. Scott Wiener, a San Francisco Democrat, says transgender women put in prisons with men are often assaulted and raped and put in isolation for their safety. The bill now heads to the state Assembly. 771
