SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego Loyal SC announced today it will forfeit the point it received from its 1-1 tie with LA Galaxy II because of a racial slur directed at a Black SD Loyal player.LA Galaxy II defender Omar Ontiveros used the slur in the 71st minute of Wednesday's 1-1 tie at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, according to USL Championship, which suspended Ontiveros Friday for six games.Multiple officials, LA Galaxy II coaching staff and players were in the area, several of whom later acknowledged hearing the exchange, according to SD Loyal.Ontiveros was not disciplined by LA Galaxy II coaching staff or referees. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County public health officials reported 3,252 COVID-19 infections today, while virus-related hospitalizations continued to increase as the first batch of Moderna vaccines arrived in the area.The number of daily infections reported Monday marked the third- highest daily increase since the pandemic began, following only Friday's 3,611 and Saturday's 3,493. Together with Wednesday's 2,807 cases and Thursday's 2,604, the top five-highest daily case counts have all occurred in the past week.Monday's total also marked the third time the number of daily infections has surpassed 3,000 and the 21st consecutive day with more than 1,000 cases. It was also the 14th day overall with more than 2,000 new cases.The new cases gave the county a cumulative total of 129,717 confirmed cases from throughout the pandemic. The county also announced three more COVID-related deaths, raising the overall death toll to 1,283.Another 32 people were hospitalized as of Monday, with one additional person sent to an intensive care unit. The 2010 rate was 68.2%.State census officials touted the success of their outreach campaign, particularly given California is considered one of the ``hardest-to-count'' states in the country due its size and a high number of people who are difficult to contact for census purposes, such as recent immigrants, people who lack high-speed internet access or people with limited English proficiency.Campaign efforts will continue until the Sept. 30 deadline.``It is through the collective efforts of millions of Californians that we have surpassed our 2010 self-response rate. But make no mistake -- we are not done yet. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt will change its home port from San Diego to Bremerton, Washington, ahead of scheduled maintenance slated for next summer, the Navy announced Wednesday.The ship, which is currently deployed in the Western Pacific, will enter Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for scheduled maintenance known as docking planned incremental availability, or DPIA.Lt. Travis Callaghan said the maintenance required to maintain the Nimitz-class carrier's service life is more involved than what can be done pier- side in San Diego. DPIA involves putting the ship in drydock and will require facilities, equipment and personnel available in Bremerton, Callaghan said.The carrier recently resumed its scheduled deployment in the Indo- Pacific after spending months docked in Guam due to the widespread COVID-19 outbreak aboard the ship.The ship originally departed San Diego on Jan. 17 for a deployment, but was diverted to Guam on March 27 when the outbreak took hold, ultimately infecting more than 1,100 sailors, and killing one, Chief Aviation Ordnanceman Charles Thacker, 41.Navy officials said the carrier now operates with a new COVID-19 standard operating procedure, which modifies how crew members move through the ship, expands meal hours and establishes new social distancing procedures. 1337
