The Inspector General released a report on Tuesday that contained photos of severe overcrowding inside two Texas border processing centers. The Inspector General toured the facilities during the week of June 10. In the report, inspectors expressed concern over the safety and health of both agents and detainees. “We are concerned that overcrowding and prolonged detention represent an immediate risk to the health and safety of DHS agents and officers, and to those detained,” the report said. “At the time of our visits, Border Management told us there had already been security incidents among adult males at multiple facilities. These included detainees clogging toilets with mylar blankets and socks in order to be released from their cells during maintenance.”To read the full report, click 809
The House of Representatives on Thursday approved a resolution to formalize the procedures of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, marking a significant step in the ongoing inquiry and setting the stage for the next phase in the investigation. The vote was 232-196 and was the first time that the full House chamber took a vote related to the inquiry. The resolution provides the procedural details for how the House will move its impeachment inquiry into its next phase as it investigates a whistleblower complaint alleging that the President attempted to pressure Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 presidential election by investigating the family of his potential political rival, former Vice President Joe Biden. The speaker usually does not preside, but for this historic vote -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is doing so Thursday morning. Before the vote, Pelosi said she had the votes to pass the resolution but called it a "sad day" because "nobody comes to Congress to impeach a president.""Today we move further down the path in our inquiry by putting forth our procedures, which are very transparent and open and frankly more transparent and more open giving more privileges to the President," Pelosi said.Pelosi added: "It isn't about partisanship, it's about patriotism."The House Intelligence, Foreign Affairs and Oversight Committees have been 1379
The controversy surrounding a nurse woman who ran in the London Marathon and was denied the "fastest nurse" world record because she wasn't wearing a dress has sparked a conversation about how the image of nurses has changed.Although not all nurses arrive to work donning white dresses, the stereotypical image of nurses remains. The Guinness World Records admitted that its guidelines were "outdated, incorrect and reflected a stereotype we do not in any way wish to perpetuate," according to Guinness World Records senior vice president Samantha Fay.Mary Lou Creech has been a registered nurse for the last 50 years, and her uniform used to be what you would expect for a stereotypical nurse. A lot has changed over the past decades, especially with her uniform.“I wore the white dress the white shoes the white hat,” Creech remembers. “In ICU that was a nightmare. But that's the way it was, and you just worked around it.”Now, at Vascular Institute of the Rockies, she works in scrubs, which is why she was surprised to learn a nurse was denied a spot with Guinness World Records as fastest marathon runner wearing a nurse's uniform because she wasn't wearing a dress.“That's too bad,” Creech says. “I mean it should be the job that they did, not what they're wearing.”“We were excited to see that social movement and see this new outcome,” says Liz Stokes with the American Nurses Association.Stokes says the image of nursing has changed, and not just in attire.“It's more diverse than the traditional what we saw years ago,” Stokes says. “You know we're more racially and ethnically diverse. Gender diversity as well as age.”She says this conversation can help to shatter stereotypes, but there is still more work to be done.“Our goal is to hope that we reflect what our patient’s population appears to be and we're not there,” Stokes says. “So, we still have a significant way to go.” 1902

The acting head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Mark Morgan, provided some details Wednesday on plans to execute an operation targeting families who have gone through their legal proceedings."If you're here illegally, then you should be removed," Morgan told reporters during a call. "And in this case, that includes families."President Donald Trump tweeted Monday night that ICE was preparing to deport "millions" of undocumented immigrants next week, but he fell short of offering details. The vague announcement was striking, given the figure and the decision to disclose an operation prior to its execution.Morgan on Wednesday refrained from providing a time frame or details on the scope of the operation. The intent, Morgan said, is to deter migrants from coming to the US-Mexico border, and the operation is expected to include families who are on an expedited court docket. It remains unclear if the President was referring to this operation in his tweet.Last year, the Executive Office for Immigration Review, which oversees the nation's immigration courts, announced that it had begun tracking family cases filed by the Department of Homeland Security in 10 immigration court locations: Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York and San Francisco. The cases are being expedited to try to process the families in under a year.Morgan said ICE had worked closely with the Department of Justice on the family expedited docket and that the "results were very disappointing." He claimed that some families haven't attended their immigration hearings, saying, "They're going through a thorough due process as part of the immigration process, they're just refusing to show up."Additionally, in February, ICE sent around 2,000 letters to families who already had received final orders of removal by judges in absentia, asking them to self-report to local ICE offices by March to comply with the orders, Morgan said.Morgan, who took over the director role in an acting capacity weeks ago, stressed that there hasn't been a shift in direction for the agency but rather a continuation of its policy not to exclude any demographic for arrest and deportation.CNN 2224
