BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday called for the country's law-enforcement personnel to learn the selfless dedication to the people from Tan Dong, a policeman in Sichuan Province.     Tan, 45, was a traffic policeman in Dayi County of Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan. He died of myocarditis on Jan. 5 because of long-time hard work at his position.     On Dec. 29 last year, in order to save a person having fallen into a trench in a car accident, Tan jumped into the cold water and got a serious cold. Being seriously sick afterwards, Tan insisted on working, until the last minute of his life.     After his death, Tan was honored as a first-class model by the Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.     On Friday, some of Tan's relatives and colleagues were invited to give a report on his heroic deeds in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The audience were deeply moved by the report and gave applauses to show their respect for the hero.     More than 800 police and citizen representatives listened to the report.     Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with Tan's families and colleagues before the report.     "He is an ordinary, but great person. He is the model for the police, and also a good example for China's grassroots officials," Zhou said.     In Tan Dong's diary, he wrote: one cannot be a public servant if he has no intention of dedication.     "He did what he said," Zhou said.

BEIJING, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping has called for offices at all levels responsible for the research of the history of Communist Party of China (CPC) to play a more important role in improving the Party's ruling abilities.     Xi, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remark at a meeting attended by officials in charge of the Party history research offices at the provincial level on Wednesday.     Xi urged the Party committees to provide financial and human resource support for those offices and encouraged Party history researchers to play stronger role in education among the Party members.     The Vice President said Party history research organs should take the opportunity in the year of 2009 when the People's Republic of China celebrates the 60th anniversary of founding.     Xi stressed that the offices should promote the Party's ruling abilities and solidify the CPC's status as the governing party.

BEIJING, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang Thursday warned the need to find jobs for college graduates was "crucial".     "The employment situation of college graduates remains grave," he told a video conference held by the State Council, the Cabinet.     More than 6 million college students were leaving school in just three months and the employment rate was generally lower than previous years, Zhang said without elaborating.     China has 6.11 million college students due to graduate this year, and 1 million from last year are still looking for jobs, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.     Graduates are having a hard time finding jobs this year as posts are being axed due to the economic slowdown.     Zhang urged government organs, government-sponsored institutions, and state-owned enterprises to hire as many people as last year, and small and medium-sized and private companies to employ college graduates.     The State Council unveiled in February a series of measures to boost employment of college graduates, calling on them to be more flexible.     The measures included encouraging graduates to work in rural areas, in grassroots urban communities, and in smaller enterprises, asking research institutions to recruit graduates, and stepping up support for graduates starting up their own businesses.     Zhang asked local government departments to work out detailed and feasible measures and make efforts to publicize the measures this month.     Government departments and higher learning institutions should provide comprehensive services to graduates by offering advice, giving aid to the poor, and maintaining a sound employment market, he said.

BEIJING, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan has called on the international community to "act together" at the upcoming London summit to get through the global financial crisis, in an article published by the British newspaper The Times on Friday.     In the article entitled "G20 must look beyond the needs of the top 20," with a subtitle "China believes the developing world should have a stronger say in how the international financial system is run," Wang urged all heads of states to be present at the G20 London summit to "act together to get through the time of hardship."     After the financial crisis broke out, China was quick to put in place a decisive plan to boost domestic demand, advance economic restructuring and improve people's well-being, which have started to produce results, said the vice premier.     However, the Chinese economy still faces severe challenges, including to meet the demanding goal of maintaining economic growth by boosting domestic demand, ensuring employment and readjusting the economic structure. China also has to cope with shrinking external demand caused by the global economic downturn and trade and investment protectionism, Wang said.     "China will continue to take forceful measures to maintain steady and fast economic growth and contribute its share to an early recovery of the world economy," Wang pledged in the article.     Since the G20 summit in Washington last year, said Wang, China has provided a lot of assistance and support through a variety of means to a number of countries and regions, and played a part in the creation of significant Asian and global economic and trade initiatives.     The Chinese leader stressed the significance of the international community to enhance coordination and cooperation to overcome the current difficulties.     "Efforts should be made to expand trade and investment cooperation to bolster economic growth, step up cooperation among small and medium-size businesses to ensure employment stability, and strengthen cooperation in energy conservation and emissions' reduction, environmental protection and development of new energy technologies to nurture growth points for the world economy," Wang suggested.     He firmly rejected trade and investment protectionism of all kind. "The international community should recognize that the trend towards economic globalization is irreversible and should take credible steps to reject all forms of trade and investment protectionism," he said.     Wang also called on the international financial system to be reformed, "with the focus on readjusting the governance structure of international financial institutions and increasing the representation and voice of developing countries." He asked the London summit to set a clear goal, timetable and road-map for such reform.     To prevent similar crisis from happening again, Wang, also a Chinese economic expert, suggested prudent regulation of all financial markets and institutions involved to be tightened and regulatory coordination and cooperation at both the regional and international levels to be increased.     On the hot topic of increasing financial resources for the International Monetary Fund (IMF), he said China supports the increase as far as the fund is safe and reasonable returns can be ensured.     "China is ready to play an active part in exploring ways to raise resources and will contribute to this effort within its ability," Wang said. He asked the IMF to mobilize resources through the "quota-based" system as well as voluntary contributions, striking a balance between the rights and obligations of the contributing countries.     As a return, said the Chinese vice premier, the IMF must enhance capacity-building, reform governance structure and ensure that the resources play a significant role in easing the international financial crisis and countering the global economic downturn. China inclines to see the resources mainly to be used to help developing countries which are seriously hit by the crisis, Wang said.     Leaders of the world's 20 largest economies will meet in London on Thursday to discuss, among other things, a coordinated response to the current global financial crisis

The two sides should further optimize trade structure, expand the scale of bilateral trade, work together to build major energy and resources projects and non-resources projects, and accelerate infrastructure construction at border areas.     Thirdly, the two countries should promote cultural exchanges and cooperation. China is ready to deepen cooperation with Kazakhstan in culture, education, health, tourism and sports. He said the two countries should encourage non-governmental organizations, media and youth organizations to expand contact and enhance friendship.     Fourthly, the two countries should deepen security cooperation and join hands to tackle various challenges. He said China will continue to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Kazakhstan within such multilateral frameworks as the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia. He said the two countries should join effort to strike trans-border organized crimes and the evil forces of separatism, terrorism and extremism so as to safeguard peace, stability and security of the two countries and the whole region.     Nazarbayev fully agreed with Hu's suggestion, saying under the current situation, Kazakhstan is ready to strengthen its strategic partnership with China. He expressed the willingness to expand bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, transport, agriculture, finance and telecommunications.     He said the two countries should continue to step up cooperation in multilateral arena, especially within the frameworks of the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia.     He said the two countries will work together to fight against the three evil forces of separatism, terrorism and extremism to maintain peace and stability in the region and the world over.     Nazarbayev reiterated that Kazakhstan supports China's stance on the issues of Taiwan and Tibet. It supports China to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity.     Before the talks, President Hu hold a welcome ceremony for President Nazarbayev at the Great Hall of the People.
