It was America's retailer, long before Amazon. But now Sears is filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy and closing another 140 stores — in addition to well over 1,000 stores the past five years. While the company will remain in business, longtime customers are a bit nervous, wondering about warranties for all those appliances they bought, as well as Shop Your Way reward points and gift cards.Sears shoppers like Cleo Pennington have a lot of questions about the bankruptcy."I'm very sad. Very, very sad," she said.So we checked the fine print in the Sears announcement to get answers.Q: Are all stores closing? A: Sears says no, and insists it plans to emerge from bankruptcy a stronger, leaner company.Q: What if you have a gift card? A: They are still valid, but any time a store files for bankruptcy, you may want to use them as soon as possible, just to be safe.Q: What about Shop Your Way rewards?  A: They are still valid at remaining Sears and Kmart stores.Q: Will appliance warranties be honored? A: Sears says it will honor them as long as it remains in business. That includes extended protection plans and full home warranties. However, Business Insider says if the chain decides to liquidate next year, then warranties could become worthless.Q: Where can you still find Kenmore appliances?A: In remaining Sears stores, at Sears.com, and on Amazon. More than just an appliance storeBut Sears wasn't just where moms and dads shopped. Tens of millions of children looked forward every Christmas to The Wish Book, filled with dozens and dozens of toys.Cheryl Ayers remembers it well, "It was a big deal when that catalog would come in the mail every Christmas and we would go through it with a pen and circle what we wanted Santa to bring," she said.Back in the 1920s and 1930s, Sears even sold houses, which today are still dotting neighborhoods across the country. But the houses went away after World War II, while Amazon, Target, and Walmart took the toy business, and Best Buy, Home Depot, and Lowe's took the appliance business.Sears will continue to sell Kenmore appliances in remaining stores and online, but Cheryl Ayers says it's not the same."This is the end of a dynasty and it's sad," she said.Sears will still have 600 stores remaining, and a website. But with big-name brands like Whirlpool pulling out, no one is sure how much longer remaining stores can survive. Business Insider worries some prospective customers may now be afraid to purchase a major Sears appliance, wondering about the future.________________"Don't Waste Your Money" is a registered trademark of Scripps Media, Inc. INDIANAPOLIS -- A leader of the white nationalist movement was arrested and charged with domestic battery Tuesday following an incident at his southern Indiana home.Court records show Orange County prosecutors charged Matthew Heimbach, the leader of the white nationalist Traditionalist Workers Party, with a felony count of domestic battery committed in the presence of a child and a misdemeanor count of battery.According to ABC-affiliate WHAS 11 in Louisville, which obtained a copy of the court documents, police were called to Heimbach’s compound in Paoli, Indiana, on a report that Heimbach had assaulted his wife’s stepfather, Matt Parrott. Parrott is also a member of the white nationalist movement. When police arrived at Heimbach’s home, they reportedly learned Heimbach had also attacked his wife while their children watched.Heimbach was booked into the Orange County Jail. Court records show he posted a ,000 cash bond on Tuesday.Heimbach was previously ordered to attend anger management classes in July 2017 when he pleaded guilty to physically harassing a female protestor at a Donald Trump rally in Louisville, Kentucky. The judge in the case, Jefferson County District Judge Stephanie Pearce Burke, waived Heimbach’s 90-day sentence on the condition that he not re-offend within two years. The new charges against him could potentially put that suspended sentence in jeopardy.Just months later, Heimbach was one of the organizers of the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, that resulted in the death of 32-year-old Heather Heyer when a car plow into counter-protestors.Scripps station WRTV in Indianapolis first reported on Heimbach in 2016, when the outspoken white nationalist was hired as a case manager by the Department of Child Services. Then 24 years old, Heimbach had already appeared on Nightline for his views on white separatism.WRTV found Heimbach had been terminated less than three weeks after his hire date. The most recent incident involving Heimbach may have larger ripple effects within his white nationalist organization, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks organizations it classifies as “hate groups.”In a post to the SPLC’s website Tuesday, the organization said it spoke with Heimbach’s father-in-law, Parrott, who told them he was leaving the group. An initial hearing on the battery charges against Heimbach in Orange County had not yet been set. Kentucky court records show Heimbach is scheduled to appear for a review hearing on June 1 for his case from the Louisville incident.  2577

It’s no secret we’re living in a very divisive time right now. It seems to be Democrats versus Republicans, or conservatives versus liberals. Whether it’s a family member or life partner, many of us are living with someone of an opposing viewpoint. In recent years, Jim Ryan has gotten used to playing pool by himself, but of course, he’d rather not play alone. He says in his old age he’s really appreciated having somebody else by his side.“I’m a widower and it’s nice to have a significant other that can help you out, and you can help them out,” Ryan said. Two and a half years ago, he met a new partner, but it didn’t take long to find out their political opinions were very different. He says he’s been a lifelong Democrat, and she’s a Republican. In a game of pool, if he were solids, she’d be stripes.“She said well, ‘Is that a dealbreaker since we’re opposite viewpoints?’ And I said 'Well, let me get back to you on that’ and we’ve been dating ever since,” Ryan said.Even though their feelings for each other are mutual, Ryan’s partner did not want to be identified in this story. He says she told him there’s too much tension between parties right now. Nonetheless, they have found a way to continue loving each other regardless of their political differences.“Politics, like religion, can be a game changer,” Couple's Counselor Ray Wynfield said.Ray Wynfield has been a couple’s counselor for nearly four decades. He says he offers advice to couples who politically disagree.“It’s a choice, people need to know it’s a choice. You can end a relationship over a church or religion, you can a relationship over politics – over Trump and Biden.”However, if you want to keep the peace between you and your significant other, or another family member, Wynfield says there’s a simple solution.“Don’t discuss it," Wynfield said. "Unless you can discuss it in a kind and respectful way where both people’s opinions and both people’s positions are respected.”Ryan says that’s something he often practices.“There are times where I have to bite my lip, and usually I’m the one that bites my lip,” Ryan said.According to Wynfield, if you and a loved one are struggling to get along in the midst of election season, you can work on skills to find peace between each other.“We need good communication skills, we need skills on how to be aware of our emotions, how to be aware of other people’s emotions,” Wynfield said.If you really do want to discuss politics, he says you shouldn’t react to another person’s views in a hateful way.“Even if you don’t like their candidate, even if you don’t respect their candidate, even if you think their candidate is evil, you don’t say that,” Wynfield said.In his 70 years of life, Ryan says he’s had civil conversations with people of opposing viewpoints. He’d like to see the same happen at the Capitol and all over the country.“I have a lot of friends that are lifelong Republicans and we get along just fine,” Ryan said.Above all else, Wynfield says we need to focus on the good our loving relationships bring us. He says there is so much more to each of us than our political affiliation.“What I hope people do in the next two weeks and after the election regardless of the results – that people can be kind and loving to each other and really appreciate the magic that they can have with a special friend,” Wynfield said. 3368
