Willie Pong enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943; he was only 17 but lied about his age. He served almost three years as a ship's cook.Pong's parents were born in China and moved to America to give their kids a better life, which they did. But as a boy, Pong faced discrimination. Gretchen Whitmer was the subject of a feature story in a Swedish newspaper in June.In a report originally published by Expressen on June 21, reporter Nina Svenberg and photographer Joel Marklund met the subject of their next story, 21-year-old Paul Bellar, at an anti-coronavirus lockdown rally in Lansing, Michigan dubbed "Judgment Day.""(Bellar) spoke about the Boogaloo movement," said Svanberg, a U.S. correspondent for Expressen. "He said that they were a part of the Boogaloo movement and he also said, 'Well, I'm going to get in trouble for saying this.'"After the rally, the journalists met at Bellar at his home in Milford, Michigan where Bellar showed off his weapons and talked about his views on the government."I feel like the American civilization has to know that it's going to possibly revolt against the tyrannical government," Bellar said during an interview with Svanberg at his home on May 14. "I feel people have had enough of it and they're willing to pick up arms for it.""He said it's a tyranny," Svanberg said later. "He pulled out his phone and said there were about 50 people in that chat group consisting of men and women, former veterans, all kinds of backgrounds."A federal investigation, aided by two informants inside the group's encrypted chats, kept police up to date with the group's plans, movements and training."He said he had been followed by the police, he was aware that the police were watching him as he described it," Svanberg said. "His big fear was that the feds or the police would come knocking on his door, he said that was what he was expecting."On Thursday, what Bellar said he was expecting happened. (AP) — The CEO of SeaWorld Entertainment stepped down Monday, just months into his tenure leading the theme park company.Gustavo "Gus" Antorcha resigned from his job as the top executive at SeaWorld as well as his position on the company's board of directors."While I may have a difference of approach, I continue to believe in SeaWorld's strategy, mission, team and prospects," Antorcha said in a statement provided by the Orlando, Florida-based company.Before taking over the helm of SeaWorld in February, Antorcha was a top executive at Carnival Cruise Lines. He succeeded Joel Manby, who unexpectedly departed in 2018 after beginning SeaWorld's pivot away from live animal shows following years of protests and declining attendance.SeaWorld announced the end of its breeding program in March 2016, after years of pressure from animal rights advocates and shifting public opinion about orcas being held in captivity. The protests intensified after the release of the 2013 documentary "Blackfish," which focused on the life of Tilikum, a killer whale responsible for killing trainer Dawn Brancheau when he dragged her into a pool in front of shocked visitors in 2010.The company in the past year, though, has seen a reversal of fortune. OCEANSIDE, Calif., (KGTV) -- Oceanside City Council decided Wednesday night to postpone a vote regarding a controversial development plan in East Oceanside. The developer hoped to postpone the vote in order to make adjustments to the plan. Residents opposed to the plan hoped Council members cast a 'no' vote to put an end to the plan.The North River Farms Development sits on 177 acres in an area Southwest of Bonsall, known as South Morro Hills. "We're really excited to bring an 'Agrihood' to the City of Oceanside," Ninia Hammond, Project Manager of Integral Communities, said. Her company began crafting this plan five years ago. Their goal is to create a place that will feature a trifecta of community, housing, and farming on traditionally agricultural land.The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce expressed their support of the project in February. They argued that it would bring in millions of dollars, and help the city meets its 2021 Regional Housing Needs Assessment goal.10News met with Jane Marshall, a resident vehemently opposed to the plan."We would rather have a better quality of life, where a developer is willing to work with us in all our infill projects," Marshall said. "We have plenty of room to build instead of taking prime farmland from Oceanside."But the developer said this is the only location for a plan of this kind. "The maker spaces, the creative hub, the exposure to the view of the river," Hammond said. "All of that makes the nature of it, really specific to the location."Marshall disagreed. She said the development would decimate small farms, increase traffic and pollution, and create flooding and fire issues. She said the plan does not include a clear emergency evacuation plan, putting residents at risk. Because of these very issues, Oceanside's Planning Commission turned down the plan for the second time two weeks ago. But Hammond said they are optimistic the city council will postpone the vote and reconsider the issue another time, after they make revisions. One of the biggest lingering questions following Wednesday's release of thousands pages of documents related to the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting is three phone calls Donald Trump Jr. placed to blocked telephone numbers before and after the meeting.Trump Jr.'s calls to blocked numbers — one of which occurred between phone calls with Emin Agalarov, the pop star son of Russian oligarch Aras Agalarov — have raised questions about who President Donald Trump's eldest son spoke to. Democrats have suggested Trump Jr.'s calls could have been to his father, but Trump Jr. said he did not know."So you don't know whether or not this might have been your father?" congressional investigators asked Trump Jr. during his interview, according to the transcript of the interview released by the Senate Judiciary Committee."I don't," Trump Jr. responded.CNN has reached out to Trump Jr.'s attorney for comment and have not yet received a response.The phone calls to blocked numbers are one of the key unanswered questions that Democrats — on both the Senate Judiciary and House Intelligence Committees — charge that Republican investigators failed to follow up on with subpoenas to Trump Jr. It's one of the items that could receive renewed scrutiny in the committees should Democrats win back either chamber in November.Trump Jr. has said he did not speak to his father about the Trump Tower meeting, in which he was expecting "dirt" on Hillary Clinton from a Russian lawyer, but instead received a pitch on removing Russian sanctions under the Magnitsky Act.The Judiciary Committee Democratic report released Wednesday highlighted the blocked calls, the first of which was a four-minute call June 6 less than an hour after Emin Agalarov, who had pushed for the Trump Tower meeting, had called Trump Jr. After calling the blocked number, Trump Jr. called back Agalarov.
