(KGTV) — A 5.5-magnitude earthquake was reported near the Ridgecrest area late Wednesday.The quake occurred at about 6:30 p.m. in the Searles Valley area, about 14 miles outside of Ridgecrest, Calif., according to the USGS. Several smaller earthquakes measuring between 2.6 and 2.9 magnitude in the nearby Trona, Calif., area were recorded after the initial shakeup. A 4.2 magnitude aftershock was also felt in the area around 8 p.m. Wednesday night. No injuries or major damage were initially reported.According to the USGS' "Did You Feel It?" map, no San Diego County responses were immediately submitted.The last major earthquakes to hit near Ridgecrest occurred on July 4 and 5, 2019, when 6.4- and 7.1-magnitude earthquakes jostled the region. 756

(KGTV) - Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas outlined the city’s recent accomplishments and layed out its future goals in her fourth State of the City Address Tuesday night. Salas went over the growth and achievements San Diego County's second-largest city has seen over the last year, including neighborhood revitalization and the approval of the Bayfront Project. During the address, Salas spoke about events that drew large crowds over the last year.Salas said the city’s Fourth of July celebration in 2017 drew a crowd of 15,000 while more than 35,000 people attended HarborFest on the Bayfront.RELATED: Port of San Diego, Chula Vista moves forward with bayfront developmentThe Mayor also spoke about growth happening in Third Avenue Village citing the Lemon Fest, Taste of Third and Village Summer Nights in June. A popular topic throughout California in recent years is infrastructure. (KGTV) - A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch from Florida Wednesday afternoon with a planet-searching satellite on board for NASA.The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) is part of a mission to find exoplanets that periodically block part of the light from their host stars, events called transits, NASA said.TESS will survey the nearest and brightest stars for two years to search for transiting exoplanets, according to scientists. NASA’s satellite will look for stars 30 to 100 times brighter than those observed by the Kepler satellite launched in 2009.TESS also will scan a larger area than Kepler, NASA officials said. It will spend about a month at a time focusing on one portion of sky, eventually covering the entire sky. TESS was designed to be stable in order to focus its cameras on the stars it will monitor.The launch had been scheduled for Monday in Cape Canaveral but it was postponed for additional systems analysis. 951

(KGTV) -- Delta has been named 2019’s best airline by The Points Guy, beating Alaska Airlines and Southwest.To come up with the rankings, the report looks at things like delays and pricing as well as comparing U.S. Department of Transportation numbers. More than 92 percent of Delta’s planes arrive on time and the airline has the largest network of lounges and cities served, according to the report. Ranked last on the list was Frontier, which placed 10th due to a poor on-time record, lackluster cabin features and “the habit of bumping paying passengers and — unsurprisingly — a high rate of customer complaints.”Although Delta took the top overall spot, other airlines performed well in other areas. According to the report, JetBlue has the best inflight cabin features and Hawaiian is the least likely to cancel a flight.
