Do you want to hit the road for a weekend trip or summer vacation? As states begin opening up, many are planning an escape. But there are some things you should you know before you make the trek.Vacations were canceled, trips delayed, destinations rescheduled amid the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. As America starts to think about traveling again, AAA wants to help you plan ahead.AAA spokeswoman Jeanette Casselano said, “We always do our research before we hit the road but now people are asking lots of questions about what’s open, what can I do, what activities are free to me when I go to a certain place.”Now, there's a new tool to help you while on the go. Trip Tik is an interactive road map, and it gives you everything you need to know before you leave home."Dining solutions or dining restrictions in place, face covers if they’re required, national lands or parks are open,” Casselano said.Trip Tik provides updated information for all 50 states. In certain areas of New Mexico, for instance, only tribal members are allowed. In South Dakota, you'll have to fill out a health questionnaire. Upon entering Florida, you'll have to fill out a traveler form. All things you need to know."That’s important information to take into account when you’re traveling,” Casselano said. “COVID has hit every part of the country and you need to understand what’s happening in that locality that you’re traveling to make the best decision.”The map points out hot spots, and number of cases by state and county. So you can make an informed decision about where you're going and where you'll be staying. The interactive map has gotten a lot of web traffic as people start feeling comfortable leaving home. And as you start planning - there's some things you should think about and discuss with your family:-Know where the rest stops are, whether they're open, and whether you'll be comfortable stopping.-Figure out whether restaurants are open, and pack extra food in case of closures.-You'll want an emergency roadside kit.-You'll need a mask, gloves, disinfectant, cleaning supplies for yourself, your family and your car.AAA also recommends making sure your car is in good shape. They've been fielding a lot of dead battery calls from cars that haven't moved during lockdown.“We had a lot of people who weren’t traveling, everyone working from home,” Casselano said. “You have to take care of your cars when that happens so we provided a lot of information and tips to keep your car and battery healthy.”Check on your car, and check your own health before you leave your hometown. 2592

Dunkin' is permanently closing about 800 locations throughout the country — about eight percent of its restaurants in the U.S.The company detailed the changes in its quarterly earnings report on Thursday.Dunkin' described the closures as "real estate portfolio rationalizations." It also said the locations have low sales volume and represent only two percent of its U.S. sales last year.More than half of the closures are in Speedway convenience stores — a change Dunkin' previously announced in February. The company said it may permanently close about 350 locations outside of the U.S.The announcement comes a day after McDonald's said it would close around 200 locations, most of them in Walmart stores. 714

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A man accused of a hit-and-run crash on Highway 57 in Ramona pleaded not guilty Thursday. A judge set the bail at million for Chase Richard. Richard is accused of swerving into Michelle Scott and driving with her bicycle attached to his car for more than two miles during Tuesday’s crash. In court Thursday, prosecutors said Richard removed the front hood and bumper and spray-painted the rear of his Ford Edge. Investigators said Richard appeared to be making a run for it when they arrived. He had a large suitcase and backpack in a running vehicle when he was arrested. EL CAJON (KGTV) - After 50 years of service, the well-known San Diego Highway Man is retiring. Thomas Weller has been helping thousands of people stuck on the side of the road since 1966. He tells 10News he started helping after a man helped him in a blizzard when he was a teenager living in Illinois.“I was on my way home about one or two in the morning and the blizzard put me off the road into a snow bank," said Weller.Weller says he never forgot that moment and hoped to be that saving grace for many others. Turns out he tells us he’s lost track of how many people he’s helped.“More than ten thousand, it's just I never keep track.” Weller had a stroke back in March and since then decided it’s best given his limited capabilities to retire.“I’ve lost my strength and my agility, not my judgment yet because I’m still driving.” He tells 10News it’s for the best that he retires because of how increasingly dangerous distracted driving has made the roads."It’s just extremely dangerous out there, more so now than it used to be.”While he is giving up one of his favorite passions in life, he isn’t giving up his outlook on life, “the most beautiful compensations of this life you cannot sincerely help another without helping yourself in the bargain.” 1266

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — An El Cajon Popeyes location has been approved to reopen after county health officials deemed the location an "imminent health hazard," forcing a temporary closure.Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen at 110 Jamacha Rd. was closed this week after an inspection by the county Department of Environmental Health (DEH) on Jan. 21, 2020 found a cockroach infestation, according to the notice. That same day and the next, the location underwent pest control treatment and a complete sanitation of the restaurant.A 10News viewer reached out after finding the location shuttered. The DEH returned Thursday and determined the infestation was cleared, scoring an A (100%), allowing the restaurant to reopen.A routine follow-up inspection will be conducted in 60-90 days, according to the city.10News reached out to Popeyes for comment, but have not heard back. 873
